MAF Named Top-Rated Nonprofit Again!

Pro-Military Organization Move America Forward Honored to Receive
“2015 Top-Rated Nonprofit Award” from GreatNonprofits.org

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Move America Forward (MAF) announced today that it has been honored with the prestigious 2015 Top-Rated Award by GreatNonprofits, the leading provider of user reviews about nonprofit organizations.

“We are excited to be named a Top-Rated 2015 Nonprofit,” says Scott Raab, Outreach Director, Move America Forward. “For the second year in a row we have been named a top charity supporting our troops. We work hard every day to make sure our supporters know we appreciate their time and effort. Without them, nothing MAF does would be possible. The gift of a care package is so much more than just the goodies and most requested items we send, it is the comforts of home to warriors that serve so far away overseas.

The Top-Rated Nonprofit award was based on the large number of positive reviews that Move America Forward received. People posted their personal experience with the nonprofit. For example, one person wrote, “They offer care packages to deployed military members, free of charge. My husband loves getting mail, it reminds them of home- and lets them know people (even complete strangers) are thinking about them and acknowledge the sacrifice they are making by serving their country.”

While the Top-Rated Awards run through the end of October, Move America Forward was one of the first to qualify for the year. In addition, we have been added to GreatNonprofits #GivingTuesday Guide—an interactive guide to top nonprofits throughout the years. Look for this near the holidays.

“Savvy donors want to see the impact of their donations more than ever,” said Perla Ni, CEO of GreatNonprofits, “People with direct experience with Move America Forward have voted that the organization is making a real difference.”

PLAYING POLITICS: Obama Defunds Troops, Holds Defense Budget Hostage for his Domestic Spending Agenda

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The nation’s largest grassroots pro-troop organization accused President Obama of playing politics with the troops again, after President Obama vetoed the Defense Authorization Bill in a fight with Congressional Republicans. The non-profit group that supports deployed troops overseas says troop pay raises and critical reforms that would give commanders the authority to let their troops carry guns to protect themselves on bases, are being held up because Obama is too committed to domestic spending increases.

“President Obama’s goal is to increase domestic spending and circumvent the spending caps imposed by sequestration and he’s willing to nuke the defense budget and defund our whole military in order to do that. Essentially he’s holding the whole nation’s security hostage.” said Danny Gonzalez, Director of Communications for the group.

“There is no reason why spending on domestic programs has to be linked with funding for overseas operations that keep America safe from terrorist plots.” said Gonzalez, “Military families and troop-supporters are disgusted to see our national security policy used as a bargaining tool for the President’s other agenda items which include more tax and spend policies that Americans rejected when they elected a new Senate last year.”

The group also criticized Obama’s continued goal of closing Guantanamo Bay. “During his ‘bill-vetoing ceremony press conference’ the President said he was vetoing the bill because it prevented him from closing Guantanamo Bay.” Gonzalez continued. “The President continues to ignore the fact that Guantanamo Bay is essential to our country’s security and a majority of Americans are against bringing those prisoners to American soil.”

TIME TO END BAN ON MILITARY DEFENDING THEMSELVES

TARGETS OF ISLAMIC EXTREMISM SHOULD BE ABLE TO BE ARMED
LIKE EVERY OTHER AMERICAN

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Move America Forward, the nation’s largest grassroots pro-troop organization says it is time to end the ridiculous policy of denying military men and women the opportunity to defend themselves in the United States against Islamic extremists.

“In the wake of another shooting at a military facility, today at the Navy Reserve Center, we should end the foolish policy of keeping American men and women in uniform from being armed so they can protect themselves,” said Danny Gonzalez, Director of Communications for the group.

“Islamic extremist have promised to attack American military men and women, and they have done it repeatedly.  It is disgraceful that the policy of disarming our troops has allowed this type of carnage to continue, today taking the precious lives of four Marines and severely injuring a law enforcement officer attempting to protect them.

“In 2008 we noticed this trend of violence against military recruiting centers and published ‘The Sedition Report,’ a collection of more than 50 incidents of violence or vandalism against military recruiters around the country. Since then, the trend against our military has continued and even become more acute, like the tragedy that happened in Chattanooga today.  We have to ask why the Administration and the Pentagon aren’t doing more to protect our troops stateside, whether they are on restricted-access military bases or in recruiting centers open to the public?

“Regardless of whether our military men and women are on a military base in Iraq or Afghanistan, Waco, Texas, or a strip mall anywhere in America, we have a duty to protect the safety of the troops.  Let’s start by letting our military keep their arms so they have the ability to protect themselves.”

“Most Americans have the right to have a firearm to protect themselves if they are in danger.  Why would we not give that same right to uniformed military personnel who clearly are in danger of attack by Islamic radicals?

“This tragedy in Chattanooga should have been prevented.  Our policy of disarming troops should have come to an abrupt end after the Fort Hood Massacre in 2009, where we lost 13 troops. We must stop this practice of ‘GUN-FREE ZONES’ that make our troops vulnerable.”

“Our hearts go out to the families of the Marines killed in Chattanooga today.  We must change the policy now so this tragedy will not be repeated,” concluded Gonzalez.

Iran Deal Has “More Holes Than Swiss Cheese”

Pro-Troop Group: Iran Deal Has
“Move Holes Than Swiss Cheese”

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Move America Forward, the largest grassroots pro-troop organization in the U.S., said President Barack Obama’s nuclear weapons deal with Iran leaves more questions unanswered than instills confidence in a solid agreement to halt nuclear proliferation in the Middle East.

20150714_iranobamaPresident Obama claims the deal will effectively halt Iran’s nuclear ambitions for 10 years in exchange for sanction relief. Move America Forward fears the deal gives Iran too many concessions without getting concrete verification of an end to a nuclear weapons program in return.

“The deal President Obama’s administration finally negotiated with Iran looks to have more holes than Swiss cheese.” said Danny Gonzalez, Director of Communications for the group. “One of the fundamental problems is that we lack confidence in President Obama to negotiate a favorable deal for the United States.  Everything he and his former Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, have touched around the globe has turned out for the worst.

“By releasing billions of dollars in sanctions relief and given Iran’s radical history of disruptive policies in the Middle East, this deal will empower Iran with the cash and resources to turn the Middle East upside down, ensuring an Iranian hegemony that will threaten peace in the region for decades to come.

20150714_syriawar“In Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, Yemen, and elsewhere, Iran’s influence and material support is fueling all the various bad actors who are making the Middle East boil over with violence. Part of Obama’s deal with Iran includes $100 billion in frozen assets than Iran will now have access to, plus billions more in sanction relief. Iran and the terrorist groups it supports will be able to wreak havoc on more innocents with that money, directly threatened our most cherished allies in the region.

“The most important and dangerous component, Iran’s centrifuges to make nuclear material, are untouched. Iran won’t be forced to dismantle any facilities, only shut down about two-thirds of them. Another key point that negotiators wanted was to stop Iran from researching more efficient centrifuges in the interim 10 year period. No word about that, so we fear they failed.

“The critical element that is supposed to keep Iran honest are the inspections, but this is where Obama’s deal seems the weakest. It gives Iran the option to appeal the inspections or delay them up to two weeks. So Iran will be allowed to continue playing games with inspectors and have ample time to hide anything they don’t want inspectors to see.  We saw this type of mischief with Iraq, which directly led us into a huge conflict.  Deals with untrustworthy actors will not hold.

“This deal also puts Israel in an incredibly tough position. We agree that Prime Minister Netanyahu’s concerns that the agreement is ‘a bad mistake of historic proportion’ may be correct.  We must stand with Israel, our most reliable ally in the Middle East.

“Finally, we are extremely disappointed that Obama refused to condition any deal with the release of innocent Americans who are held unlawfully by the Iranian authorities.  We firmly believe Obama should have made the release of Americans the first step in Iran demonstrating some commitment to the rule of law and engagement with the civilized world,” concluded Gonzalez.

MAF Warns Against Jordanian Prisoner Exchange with ISIS

/// PRESS RELEASE ///

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Move America Forward, the largest grassroots pro-troop organization in the U.S., warned Jordan against their plan to conduct a prisoner exchange with the terrorist group calling themselves the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, better known as ISIS, or ISIL. Jordanian officials made public a plan to trade for a Jordanian pilot captured by ISIS in exchange for freeing an Iraqi terrorist convicted of taking part in several hotel bombings in 2005 and sentenced to death for her terrorist crimes.

“This is a dangerous path that the Jordanians are going down, and I would urge them to immediately back out of this deal and completely sever all diplomatic channels with ISIS,” said Danny Gonzalez, Communications Director for Move America Forward.

“There is a fundamental problem at the core of this controversy that says you should never, ever negotiate with non-state actors like ISIS. Though they call themselves the Islamic State, they are not a country and should never be treated with the legitimacy that we treat a nation-state. They are a group of terrorists, Islamic extremists, and they have no diplomatic standing. Once you start negotiating with them as you would a nation-state, you give them legitimacy and that gives them power.”

“Jordan should focus on joining the United States and other Arab countries to hunt down and eradicate ISIS, not parley with them,” said Gonzalez. “This also sets a very dangerous precedent because if ISIS gets what they want this time, they know there is future potential for more ransoms or exchanges and that will lead to more people being kidnapped. It immediately raises the value of any potential kidnapping target such as any Americans that may be in Iraq, be they aid workers or members of our military,” warned Gonzalez.

“The United States should also not be negotiating with ISIS, and President Obama has to share some of the blame for this after he was willing to negotiate prisoner exchanges with the Taliban in return for releasing Guantanamo Detainees.

“That set a bad precedent that contributes to this situation and we need to roll that back and re-affirm our policy that the United States and Her allies do not, and will never be willing to negotiate with terrorists regardless of what name they call themselves by,” said Gonzalez.

Move America Forward has been an advocate in favor of Operation Iraqi Freedom since 2004 and has sent representatives to Iraq multiple times including trips in 2005, 2007, 2009, and 2011. Before the rise of ISIS in Iraq, MAF staffers and spokespersons spent weeks embedded with American troops, met with local Iraqi military and political leaders to build diplomatic relations, and reported back news from the front lines.

WSJ: OBAMA CONSIDERING OPTIONS TO CLOSE GITMO

| FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

| CONTACT: Danny Gonzalez, Dir. of Communications (714) 926-6189

SACRAMENTO, Calif. –Move America Forward (MAF), the nation’s largest grassroots pro-troops organization, joined thousands of pro-troop supporters in horror at the latest reports from the Wall Street Journal that President Barack Obama might be considering options to transfer Guantanamo Bay detainees to prisons in the United States.

“From day one we have opposed President Obama’s goal of closing GITMO or transferring some detainees to prisons on American soil.” said Danny Gonzalez, Director of Communications for the group. Gonzalez was part of a MAF delegation that visited Guantanamo in 2008, toured the base, and concluded that detainees were not being mistreated.

“The latest report, though the White House may deny it, is disturbing because Obama continues to say that his goal is to close GITMO and bring terrorists to American soil. So far he has been unable to do it thanks to both Congressional action and public outcry.  According to the Wall Street Journal, he has asked his staff to prepare several options to do so which could violate a Congressional law banning the use of public funds to transfer GITMO detainees.”

“At a time when Islamic terror is displaying naked aggression around the world, beheading Americans and other Westerners, fighting near Baghdad, Iraqi Kurdistan, Syria, and elsewhere, the last thing we need to do is release more terrorists who may ultimately return to the battlefield.” said Gonzalez.

“Another part of Obama’s plan is to spread GITMO detainees in prisons around the United States. This is extremely dangerous,” said Gonzalez. “Recently in Oklahoma, we have seen the dangers of allowing jihadist thought to promulgate in our prisons. Alton Nolen, who cut off the head of one co-worker with a knife and almost killed a second man, converted to Islam and was radicalized in prison. Obama would be inviting disaster by allowing more jihadists to proselytize and convert others in U.S. jails.” concluded Gonzalez.

After visiting Guantanamo Bay in 2008, Move America Forward launched a “Don’t Close GITMO” TV-ad campaign in 2009. In 2011 MAF organized public protests to “Stop GITMO North” in the city of Thompson, Illinois after President Obama sent Eric Holder there to determine if the prison could be used to house terrorist detainees.

Stag Arms Aims to Support Troops Overseas

STAG ARMS Aims to Support Troops Overseas

DONATES RIFLE TO HELP RAISE OVER $300,000 ON TROOPATHON

Sacramento, Calif. – Move America Forward (MAF), the nation’s largest grassroots pro-troop organization announced the winner of a huge giveaway from STAG ARMS to help promote Troopathon 7, a star-studded effort to send care packages to troops in Afghanistan. At the end of the fundraiser MAF collected $301,626 thanks, in part, to the generous support of STAG ARMS.

To help support TROOPATHON and send more care packages to the troops, Firearms Manufacturer STAG ARMS partnered with MAF to give away a FREE AR-15 rifle, valued at over $900. The winner, Wayne Dupree, an 8 year Air Force veteran who lives in Maryland, can choose any one of three available STAG ARMS models in left-handed or right-handed configuration.

“Winning this Stag Arms Rifle during Troopathon 2014 was the cake on the table for me but the icing was gathering social media together and giving them a way to make donations to my military brothers and sisters in the way of care packages.” said Mr. Dupree

“I was in the military for eight years and I know first hand what a care package will do especially in times when you are lonely or homesick. It was a great honor to have helped them and win this rifle. While in the USAF I was expert with the M-16 and .38 so this is something I will treasure always.” said Dupree, after being notified that he was the winner of the STAG ARMS AR-15 giveaway.

“Stag Arms has always been a supporter of the troops not just with discounts on purchases for our servicemen but in donations to pro-troop initiatives like Troopathon. We were honored to have their support and because of their generosity more troops overseas will receive support through care packages this Summer.” said Scott Raab, Operations Director in charge of coordinating care package shipments overseas.  “Without wonderful sponsors like STAG ARMS we wouldn’t have been able to raise over $300,000 to support our troops.”

“Troopathon 7  – Care Packages for Our Heroes” was the 7th annual Troopathon event, an 8-hour long fundraiser bringing together pro-troop movie stars, TV personalities, elected officials, professional athletes, musicians, talk radio hosts and many other supporters to encourage viewers to sponsor care packages for the troops serving overseas through the group’s website (www.troopathon.org) or by phone at (866) 866-6372.

MAF Says Obama Must Keep GITMO Open

GROUP VISITED GUANTANAMO SAYS OBAMA MUST KEEP GITMO OPEN

Sacramento, Calif. –
Move America Forward (MAF) the nation’s largest grassroots pro-troop organization, criticized President Obama’s decision to hire high-powered K street lawyer Clifford Sloan to renew the President’s efforts to close Guantanamo Bay, citing numerous failed attempts and security challenges.

“President Obama has made closing Guantanamo a priority only when it was necessary to please his very liberal base, but most of middle America don’t support closing this important military asset,” said Danny Gonzalez, Director of Communications for MAF. “Polls show that up wards of 63% of Americans want to keep Guantanamo Bay open, showing the failure of President Obama to convince them otherwise over the past 5 years.”

Move America Forward (MAF) sent a delegation to Guantanamo Bay in 2008 and concluded that the facility met and exceeded all standards of decency and respect to the prisoners held there, who are the most dangerous terrorist suspects in custody.

“When we toured GITMO in 2008 we saw that they’re allowed to play soccer, do art, eat McDonald’s and watch Harry Potter movies if they want. Only the most violent and dangerous detainees are kept isolated, and that’s based on their behavior. There is no torture or violation of human rights going on at GITMO” said Gonzalez.

“The President wrongly wants to treat terrorist as common criminals and insert them into the U.S. criminal justice systems and all of the rights afforded to American citizens.  That is a disastrous approach because enemy combatants should be tried under a military justice system.

The group also cited the President’s previous failed attempts to find a prison on U.S. soil to relocate the prisoners. “When President Obama had Eric Holder visiting towns like Thomson, Illinois to find a prison to house the terrorists, the local population protested. We don’t want a GITMO on American soil, so where is President Obama going to send these dangerous terrorist suspects?”

MAF says it’s necessary to keep the prisoners under the watchful eye of the U.S. military and not a foreign government like the Yemenis. “In the past hundreds of Al Qaeda operatives or suspects held at GITMO were released to other countries for safekeeping. However many of these dangerous operatives were subsequently let free, then later found back on the battlefield. This has happened under President Bush and Obama. It is irresponsible to transfer terrorist suspects to a country like Yemen if we know that they are either unwilling or unable to keep them detained when they present a danger to American security or our troops in the Middle East,” said Gonzalez. “For all those reasons and more, President Obama must KEEP GITMO OPEN!”
