2023 HALLOWEEN CANDY BUY BACK
Join our Halloween Candy Buyback Program by collecting excess Halloween candy and sending it to our Operation Center. Anyone: Individuals, families, offices and organizations nationwide can participate. Your candy will be included in military care packages to support our troops overseas! LAST YEAR WE COLLECTED OVER 20,000LBS OF CANDY FOR OUR TROOPS!!

HALLOWEEN CANDY BUYBACK EVENT TYPES:
Buyback: Offer monetary payment for candy ($1 per pound).
Giveback: Express thanks and appreciation to candy donors.
Sweet Swap: Exchange candy for healthy treats, prizes, or other gifts.
These events help children and parents prevent tooth decay from excessive sugar intake while supporting our servicemembers far from home with a treat they can not get while deployed overseas!
SENDING YOUR CANDY:
After you’ve collected your candy, simply send it to us by the end of the year. Our dedicated volunteers will sort, weigh, and handle everything. No need for complicated forms — just keep the candy in its original wrapping, and please avoid sending homemade goods like cookies.
COLLECTION AND SHIPPING SCHEDULE: November 1st – 7th (suggested)
We suggest to collect immediately following Halloween from November 1st – 7th, but you can choose a date(s) that work best for you. Ship candy to us by the end of the year to ensure the best quality for our troops! Don’t forget to include your organization’s name and contact information so we can thank you.

Additional Details:
Media and Events: If you plan to organize a collection kickoff or wrap-up event, consider inviting your local news station(s) and local military recruiters. Allowing our troops to express their gratitude and speak with the media can shine a bright light on the incredible work you’re doing in the community.
Messages from Kids and Care Package Requests: You can send us any personal messages from children who contributed to the candy collection or requests for care packages. Messages will be distributed with the candy in our care packages. Requests can also be made online here.
Beyond Candy: We welcome additional care package items such as toothpaste, toothbrushes, dental floss, and other hygienic products. Your generosity can make a significant impact.
Wrap-Up Email: Once the Halloween Candy Buyback concludes, we will send a wrap-up email to all participants, providing information about the total candy collected and how many troops you’ve supported. We’ll also include pictures from our troops to share their gratitude.
Simply box up and ship your candy, no sorting or weighing required. Include your contact info for thanks and updates.

HOW DID MAF GET STARTED WITH HALLOWEEN BUYBACK?
We started in 2013 when Surf Side Dental and Lakeview PTO donated candy. Since then, we’ve accepted donations nationwide to send care packages to our troops.
HOW CAN I LET OUR COMMUNITY KNOW THAT WE ARE COLLECTING CANDY?
Create a flyer, share it, and use our logo. See examples here and here.
TIPS ON SHIPPING:
Use the United States Post Office, but choose the most cost-effective method for your organization. Tape the box securely. Consider asking local service organizations for help with shipping costs.
Check these shipping companies for sponsorship possibilities: USPS, FedEx, UPS, DHL.
Ask local service organizations (VFW, American Legion, Kiwanis, Lions, Rotary, etc.) to help with shipping costs.
TIPS FOR PARENTS:
Ask your child to write a letter for a military member to include with the candy.
Explain the significance of sharing candy with troops far from home.
Invite friends and family to join the effort and make it a competition.
Find out if you know anyone deployed and sign them up to receive a care package.
