Care Packages Shipping Today to Aid Texas
National Guard and Houston Relief Efforts

Sacramento, Calif. – The pro-troop non-profit Move America Forward announced that their first shipment of care packages for Houston is shipping today via private freight truck headed from California to Texas. These packages include all the same types of items that the group normally sends to troops on the front lines in Iraq and Afghanistan. These care packages will be received by members of the Texas National Guard and US Coast Guards who are helping rescue and care for victims of Hurricane Harvey.

Move America Forward began raising money for the Houston Emergency Disaster Aid Effort last week and quickly raised about $7,000 for the first shipment. The group hopes to raise a total $15,000 in support for military members involved in saving lives in the hurricane zone.

“When we heard that Texas Governor Greg Abbott had activated the entire Texas National Guard to rescue Hurricane victims and organize aid and housing for the survivors, as well as keep the streets safe from looters, we knew we had to do something to help the Texas military.” said Danny Gonzalez, Director of Communications for Move America Forward. “The main mission of Move America Forward is supporting the troops, whether they are in Afghanistan fighting the Taliban, or fighting the aftermath of a huge natural disaster back here at home. Anywhere our troops are risking their lives, you can bet we’ll be there to support them.”

Operations Director Scott Raab said the group hopes the packages will help both the troops leading the rescue efforts as well as the victims of the hurricane. “We think our care packages that normally go to the Middle East have a lot of items that will also be very useful for disaster relief.” said Raab.

“The coffee is there to help keep our troops working late into the night or very early in the morning, as we know they are often called upon to do. There are a variety of individually packaged snacks, protein bars, and candy that can be easily thrown into a bag or the glove box of a truck, as we know the troops often don’t have time to sit and have a full meal because they’re too busy rescuing people. We are also sending a lot of travel kits that have toothpaste, shampoo, deodorant, toothbrushes, nail clippers and wet wipes. These will be really helpful to the troops as well as the evacuees. The ability to keep yourself clean and smelling fresh is a huge comfort when you’ve lost your home and no longer have that safe place to maintain your personal hygiene. Most importantly, each care package includes a heartfelt letter of support from our caring donors across the US who are thankful to the brave men and women of the Texas National Guard.” says Raab

The care packages, about 250 of them, as well as two large pallets of coffee provided by the San Francisco Bay Coffee Company, locally roasted in Lincoln, California are being picked up this afternoon by a private freight trucking company and delivered to a large centralized staging area near Houston administered by the Texas National Guard.
