Care Packages to Deployed Troops for Christmas
SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Move America Forward (MAF), the nation\’s largest grassroots Pro-Troop organization, together with local volunteers from the Sacramento area and a dozen Army recruiters from the Yuba-Sutter region helped label and ship 1,800 Christmas care packages for troops deployed overseas. The volunteers also helped pack another 800 fresh boxes.
These care boxes will be shipped to American troops, primarily ones deployed on the front lines in Iraq and Afghanistan. It is estimated that over 22,000 troops are serving on the front lines in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Syria combined after the Pentagon recently revealed over 4,000 troops were in Syria when the number was previously thought to be just 500. Thousands more troops serve in places near the front lines like Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and the UAE.
The care packages includes all the staple items that come in Move America Forward boxes like cookies, candy bars, nuts, granola bars, and personal care items like deodorant, foot powder and skin moisturizers. The real feature is the special Christmas items like candy canes, hot chocolate, peppermint coffee and Christmas stockings or Santa hats. Each care package also includes a personalized messages of support written by donors thanking the troops for their service. In this way, Move America Forward makes a personal and heartfelt connection between the donor and the serviceman or woman they are supporting.
The care packages will be picked up tomorrow by the US Post Office on a huge truck that can carry all the boxes at once!
