State of the Union: MAF Commends President Trump on NATSEC

STATE OF THE UNION RESPONSE: LOCAL PRO-TROOP NON-PROFIT
COMMENDS PRESIDENT TRUMP ON NATIONAL SECURITY PROGRESS

Move America Forward, the largest grassroots organization that supports troops fighting the war on terror since 2004, applauded the President’s leadership in National Security, most of all, when it comes to empowering our military leaders to confront ISIS and other terrorist groups.

At his first State of the Union Address to Congress and the American people tonight, President Donald J. Trump announced amazing strides and progress made under his Administration on many important National Security fronts.

Fighting Terror

As we have seen throughout the year, and mentioned by the President in his SOTU address, ISIS has lost nearly all the territory it once held in Iraq and Syria. What started as a small terrorist splinter group grew quickly took over giant swaths of territory, destabilizing Iraq and Syria. Unfortunately ISIS wasn’t stopped when it was still small, allowing it to grow exponentially and bring untold misery on millions of people in the Middle East as they took town after town from the weak Syrian and Iraqi forces who couldn’t stop them. When Trump took office, he pledged to defeat ISIS, and under his leadership, our brave and capable troops have helped destroy the ISIS terror network almost entirely in the Levant.

More Authority to Military Commanders

One of the main reasons we’ve seen such progress is thanks to increased flexibility given to the commanders on the ground, as outlined in the President’s National Security Speech last August. Under the previous administration our troops’ hands were essentially tied by very restrictive rules of engagement that left troops unable to return fire or call in air support, depending on the situation. President Trump ended this policy and gave our commanders the authority and flexibility to fight the enemy

“Defeating ISIS in Iraq and Syria was an enormous challenge for our troops and the Iraqi army they supported.” said Danny Gonzalez, Director of Communications for Move America Forward. “Thanks to our cooperation and assistance, they’ve finally driven ISIS out of Iraq. It’s an astonishing achievement after just 12 months in office, and we thank President Trump for making it possible.” said Gonzalez.

Keeping Guantanamo Bay Open

President Trump rightly criticized the previous practice of releasing terrorists and suspected enemy combatants captured on the battlefield. Many of those same terrorists returned to terror and were later captured or killed because they resumed their jihad against America. Tonight the President pledged to keep the base at Guantanamo Bay open, overturning a previous directive with the aim of closing the base. “All previous plans to close GITMO failed because the American people and Congress would not accept bringing terrorists to American soil.” Gonzalez said. “President Trump has pledged to keep GITMO open and continue sending enemy combatants there to be confined away from the battlefield. We fully support President Trump’s policy to use GITMO as an effective place to house terrorists captured in the war zones so their threat to Americans will cease.” said Gonzalez.

Move America Forward is proud of our President and the progress his administration has made on these important National Security problems. Under his leadership America will never back down from a threat, or allow bold enemies to attack our allies, thinking we will be slow to react. President Trump has put our enemies on notice, that if they attack us, we will retaliate and hunt them down.

Move America Forward, has sponsored several trips overseas with delegations going to Baghdad Iraq and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba to see how our troops fight the war on terror first hand.
