First Shipment of 2017: Local Volunteers & Veterans Prepping Care Packages for Troops in Iraq/Afghanistan

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Move America Forward (MAF), the nation\’s largest grassroots Pro-Troop organization, together with local volunteers and veterans from the Sacramento area, will be packing care packages on Wednesday January 25th for American troops on the front lines in Iraq and Afghanistan. Care packages contain a variety of treats and personal care items such as high quality gourmet coffee that is locally roasted, extra thick boot socks, skin cream from CeraVe and special See\’s Candy boxes. Also included will be standard items like protein bars, assorted candy, beef jerky, foot powder, deodorant, soap and other personal care items. These items will remind the troops overseas of home and let them know that they still have our full support in their missions. Each care package also includes messages of support written by donors thanking the troops for their service.

Local media are invited to join us and help get the word out that there is still time to send a care package to one of our nation’s heroes. And film our community volunteers stuffing boxes with items for the troops. It is very important to send a strong message of support during the winter because we know that especially in Afghanistan the weather is freezing and our troops need the morale boost all the more. January is historically a slow month for non profit fundraising, so today\’s shipment and fundraising effort is critical for Move America Forward. About 10-15 local Sacramento-area volunteers will be present and working on boxes from 9:00 AM to about 11:00 AM in the morning. There is also a possibility that packing will be extended into the late afternoon if more volunteers show up thanks to your news coverage.

Move America Forward is also celebrating after recently being upgraded to a \”Platinum Participant\” by the Charity-rating group Guidestar, which is used by the department of defense and others to rate non-profits. MAF is also named a \”Top-Rated Nonprofit\” by the charity-rating group Great Nonprofits for the third year in a row. Visit www.greatnonprofits.org for more information.

There are still over 15,000 troops serving, training Afghanistan security forces or advising the Iraqi army in their fight against ISIS, so care packages are still needed. Move America Forward has noticed a sharp increase in the number of care package requests received on their website over the past few weeks. The Department of Defense continues to activate reserve units and rotate new troops into dangerous areas around the world, fighting the War on Terror, so sending support is still as important and valuable to troop morale as ever.
