Obama Gives American Rights to Terrorist

Sacramento, Calif. – Move America Forward, the nation’s largest grassroots pro-troop organization, criticized the decision by President Obama and his Justice Department to try recently captured Al-Qaeda operative Sulaiman Abu Ghaith, in New York City.

“President Barack Obama and his Justice Department are defying the will of Congress and the American people by giving Al-Qaeda leader Sulaiman Abu Ghaith the full protection afforded U.S. citizens in a civilian criminal courtroom. That’s wrong. The people want these terrorists in Guantanamo Bay with other enemy combatants and subject to the military court system,” said Danny Gonzalez, Director of Communications for Move America Forward.

“President Obama is making a mistake by not taking Abu Ghaith to Guantanamo Bay. Trying a terrorist on U.S. soil brings up a myriad of costs and problems we could avoid by holding the trial at Guantanamo Bay, which is a much more appropriate place to try these killers. The public, by an overwhelming majority, do not want terrorists tried and held in their backyards with full rights of American citizens.

“Sulaiman Abu Ghaith, is an Al Qaeda terrorist and son in law of Osama Bin Laden. He’s not a U.S. citizen, and therefore he doesn’t deserve the legal rights and protections guaranteed to a U.S. citizen. By trying Ghaith on U.S. soil, in a New York City courtroom, Eric Holder will be giving him the same rights as a U.S. citizen, the people Ghaith was conspiring to take up arms against and kill.” concluded Gonzalez.

Previous attempts to try terrorists in civilian courts have been met with public outrage over extending Constitutional rights, affording terrorists a media platform and high costs for security. Last year the Department of Justice abandoned plans to hold the trial of Khalid Sheik Mohammed in New York City after mass public outcry opposing the decision coupled with extremely high projections of security costs. The NYPD admitted they would have to turn lower Manhattan into an armed camp with 24/7 patrols and rooftop snipers in order to guarantee security for the trial.
