Vigil Planned Against Controversial Soldier Display Police Say They Will Have Contingent Of Officers On Hand
SACRAMENTO, Calif.—People who are offended by a Sacramento-area homeowner’s anti-war display, which has gained national attention, are scheduled to hold their own vigil in front of that home Tuesday night. About a week ago, Stephen and Virginia Pearcy put a soldier’s uniform up in front of their Land Park home with the words: “Your Tax Dollars At Work.” A passerby ripped that display down a few days later. A few days later, the Pearcys put up a second soldier display with the words: “Bush Lied, I died.” And on Monday afternoon, that display was ripped down, leaving only the soldier’s glove. And a sticker from President George W. Bush’s campaign had been put on the front window of the home. On Tuesday, a neighborhood resident who wanted to remain anonymous told KCRA 3’s Mike TeSelle that she no longer feels safe because of the controversy, saying things are getting out of hand. “It makes you paranoid. You don’t think with love in your heart. You think with fear,” the woman said. A local group is planning a vigil to protest the images of the two soldiers that hung on the house. They were anti-war messages, according to the home’s owner. Siobhan Guiney, of Move America Forward, is spearheading the demonstration. “I have no idea what to expect, but we’re telling everybody. This is a peaceful opportunity to show the troops we support them,” Guiney said. Click here to read full story

(CNSNews.com) - A couple who hanged a U.S. soldier in effigy outside their home is the talk of Sacramento, most of it unflattering. Conservative radio host Mark Williams of KFBK-Sacramento, in conjunction with the group Move America Forward, is organizing a candlelight vigil on Tuesday night to support U.S. troops and protest the anti-war display outside the home of Steve and Virginia Pearcy. The anti-war display includes a “stuffed” soldier hanging from the eaves of the house along with a sign that reads, “Bush Lied, I Died.” A Palestinian flag is draped in one window of the home; and an Iraqi flag hangs in another window. This is second time the Pearcys have hanged a U.S. soldier in effigy, Move America Forward said. The first soldier held a sign reading, “Your Tax Dollars at Work,” but that “soldier” was ripped down last week. “There are those who will stoop to any level to bring attention to a hateful agenda that undermines our heroic men and women in the armed forces,” said Move America Forward Co-Chair Melanie Morgan.
“While the families of men and women serving in our armed forces are praying for their safety, they have to tolerate this cruel display. But those who support our troops and their brave fight against the threats of terrorism also enjoy the right to free speech, and we will exercise that right,” Morgan added.

A California couple who created a national uproar last week by hanging in effigy a U.S. soldier on its home with the message “Your Tax Dollars at Work” now has a new message with the hanging uniform: “Bush Lied. I Died.”
In reaction to the latest message, Move America Forward, the national organization that supports American troops and the war against terrorism, has announced it will hold a candlelight vigil tomorrow night at the Sacramento home of Steve and Virginia Pearcy. The three-hour vigil, slated to begin at 7 p.m., is designed to show support for U.S. troops and “register our opposition and disgust with the hateful ‘soldier hanged in effigy’ display.” “Move America Forward supports the right of free speech,” a statement from the group said. “However, the right to speak freely does not mean all words or sentiments should be warmly embraced. The hateful messages that undermine our troops should be treated the same as the hate that spews from the likes of KKK members – we must step forward and make it clear that these voices of hate do not speak for our greater community, and that we will reject them through peaceful assemblies of the community.” Click here to read full story

i-Newswire, 2005-01-24 - To date we have shipped more than 4 tons of coffee directly to our troops in the Middle East. “We are making impressive headway toward our goal to supply every troop in Afghanistan and Iraq a bag of fresh roasted coffee from home. I can’t drink the stuff they are getting as part of their rations, I can’t imagine they enjoy it either”! said Burke Hodge, President of Cornerstone Coffee Company. Now businesses both large and small can show their support by sponsoring cases of coffee to be sent. Each case will include a message from your company indicating your sponsorship and support as well as personalized messages from you and/or your staff on every bag.
“We are getting many requests from troops who have heard about our program but have not yet received coffee. It is obvious that our program is making its way through the ranks” said Siobhan Guiney, Executive Director of Move America Forward.

Two intriguing connections arose yesterday in published reports. Newsweek’s Web site reported that Mr. Vincent has ties to former Republican vice-presidential nominee, Jack Kemp, while Move America Forward’s Web site probed Mr. Vincent’s ties with President Carter. Both advocated policies that could be seen as favorable to the Saddam regime. However, unlike the unidentified U.N. official, neither they, nor other unnamed influential Washington officials who he met with and allegedly influenced, were accused in Mr. Vincent’s testimony of having directly received a bribe from Saddam’s regime. The Carter connection, according to Move America Forward, began in September 1999,when the former president hosted an Iraqi religious delegation organized by Mr. Vincent. Later on, Mr. Vincent, along with former U.N. ambassador Andrew Young and Mr. Carter’s son Chip, was on the seven-member board of directors of a Carter Center- inspired organization named “A World of Friends,” according to the report. Mr. Carter was a strong advocate of repealing the sanctions imposed on Iraq after its 1991 invasion of Kuwait. Yesterday he attended President Bush’s inauguration. A spokeswoman for the Carter Center did not respond to requests by the Sun for comment. Click here to read full story

Jimmy Carter linked
Ex-president worked with key figure

Move America Forward today will call upon Carter to provide a full accounting of his meetings and conversations with Samir Vincent, who yesterday pleaded guilty to participating in numerous illegal activities as part of the U.N. scandal. “President Carter needs to tell the American people exactly what relationships he had with the individuals involved in the oil-for-food scandal,” said Melanie Morgan, co-chairman of Move America Forward, which is running television ads attacking the U.N. on national cable news networks, conducting an online petition drive and soliciting contributions to spread the message of the TV spots. The San Francisco-based group Move America Forward announced its support yesterday for New York lawmakers trying to block U.N. expansion plans in Manhattan. The organization, which was part of the effort to recall Governor Davis of California, said that working with New York politicians opposed to the U.N.’s expansion was the best way to boot the world body from American soil. Move America Forward said it also plans to run radio and television advertisements in the New York City market that encourage citizens to help “Get the U.N. out of the U.S.”
The group cited the tax burden placed on Americans as one of their biggest objections to the U.N. expansion.

A conservative group that wants to get the United Nations out of the United States said it will work with New York lawmakers and community leaders who are trying to block the expansion and renovation of U.N. headquarters.
The co-founders of Move America Forward, Howard Kaloogian and San Francisco radio talk-show host Melanie Morgan, said they have reached out to New York officials who are opposed to expanding the U.N.’s presence in their community.
