WASHINGTON—The latest controversial political commercial in the nation involves Democratic Sen. Joseph Lieberman, the state’s junior senator. The minute-long ad is designed to boost the Republican cause on the nomination of John R. Bolton as ambassador to the United Nations and point the finger at any balking Democrats. Lieberman has been included in a lineup of steadfast conservative political personalities in the new spots appearing on CNN’s Headline News, Fox News and MSNBC. They were produced and paid for by a California-based conservative group called Move America Forward. “We need leaders who will stand up for American values, like John Bolton,” the commercial announcer’s voice-over intoned over photos of the quartet. The commercial loses sight of the Bolton issue during the ad by targeting high-profile Democrats not even involved in the debate. “Are you sick and tired of politicians who blame their own country for all the world’s problems?” asked the announcer. Featured are pictures of former President Jimmy Carter and Sens. Edward M. Kennedy and John F. Kerry, both Democrats from Massachusetts. Click here to read full story

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Anxious to counter Democratic efforts to block John Bolton’s chances of becoming U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, a conservative advocacy group is running television ads this week to promote his nomination.
“The main goal with the John Bolton ad is to show that he is a great nominee for U.N. ambassador. He’s plain spoken and will represent U.S. interests to the U.N. as opposed to representing those of the U.N.,” said Siobhan Guiney, executive director of the group, on Tuesday. Guiney said several ads had run this week nationwide in support of Bolton to coincide with his nomination hearings on Capitol Hill, where he has come under fire by Democrats who criticize what they see as a “go-it-alone” foreign policy. “I think our ads are helpful. Most people recognize that the United Nations is a fraudulent organization and in need of reform,” she said. She declined to say how much money was being spent on the campaign but said it was privately funded by Americans who believed the “anti-American” world group was in need of reform. (CNSNews.com) - There’s nothing wrong with the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations putting U.S. interests first, John Bolton’s supporters say. Move America Forward—an organization that wants the U.S. to cut all ties to the U.N.—is now running TV ads supporting Bolton’s nomination as U.N. ambassador. Move America Forward Co-Chair Howard Kaloogian described Bolton’s confirmation hearing on Monday as a “clear display of the ‘blame America first’ mentality that permeates the United Nations today.” Kaloogian noted that some senators on the Foreign Relations Committee seemed to be offended by the idea that Bolton would advance U.S. interests before U.N. interests. “John Bolton is a man of accomplishment who has never wavered in his commitment to defending America’s best interests,” Kaloogian said in a press release. “As the U.S. ambassador to the U.N., he will speak truth to power,” Kaloogian said. A conservative advocacy group called Move America Forward is planning to run a television ad this week promoting John R. Bolton’s appointment as ambassador to the United Nations. The ad notes the candidate’s support for “American values,” mocking Democrats who “blame America first” and making little mention of the United Nations itself. But a visit to the organization’s Web site would seem to confirm the fears of Democrats who say the administration has named a longtime U.N. critic to the job. Senate confirmation hearings open today on the nomination. “We tell other countries not to harbor organizations that support terrorists. Why, then, do we harbor the U.N. here in America?” said an announcer in a video on the group’s site. “Join us as we help move America forward by kicking the U.N. out of the U.S.” ... Senate filibusters? United Nations ambassador-nominees? Ad campaigns on topics that are typically fodder only for political junkies glued to C-SPAN are making the leap to mainstream television. The Bush administration’s controversial nomination of John Bolton to be ambassador to the U.N. is generating a particularly confusing volley of ads. Move America Forward, a conservative group that wants the U.S. to withdraw entirely from the U.N., last week began running spots on cable news channels endorsing Mr. Bolton’s nomination. Meanwhile, Citizens for Global Solutions, a pro-U.N. group, is running TV and radio ads opposing Mr. Bolton’s nomination in at least two states where Republican senators have expressed only lukewarm support for the nominee. (CNSNews.com) - An organization that wants America to abandon the United Nations has produced a new television ad slamming the “bogus reforms” proposed by U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan. Move America Forward said its new ad will start running on national cable news networks the first week in April.
The group calls the proposed reforms another attempt to “whitewash” Kofi Annan’s “mismanagement,” and it said the recommendations “reek of anti-Americanism.”
Among other things, Annan has recommended expanding the Security Council from its current 15 members to 24, and he has suggested two ways of doing that. It doesn’t matter which proposal is adopted, Move America Forward said. Click here to read full story

(CNSNews.com) - Supporters of John Bolton are bracing for a “big and ugly” confirmation battle over his nomination as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations. Move America Forward, a group that wants to evict the United Nations from U.S. soil, is trying to counteract a “stop Bolton” campaign by going in the opposite direction—urging Americans to express their “strong and enthusiastic support” for Bolton’s nomination. “Americans have had enough of the fraud, corruption and anti-Americanism that has overrun the United Nations,” said Melanie Morgan, co-chair of Move America Forward. “We admire John Bolton’s track record of fighting to put America’s interests first, and his willingness to take a direct and tough approach against those who threaten America’s security and national interests,” Morgan added. Reacting to mounting opposition to the nomination of John Bolton as U.N. ambassador, a group leading the fight to boot the U.N. from the U.S. is mobilizing a campaign of support in favor of the Bush appointment. Move America Forward’s “Support John Bolton” campaign will include producing and airing television commercials supporting the nomination on national television networks. In addition, the effort includes a “Support John Bolton” webpage listing the phone number and e-mail addresses of U.S. senators and their staffs involved in the Bolton confirmation battle. Also included on the webpage are clips of Bolton expressing his reservations with the failures of the United Nations and the fact that the organization would not be viable without the United States. Move America Forward has been encouraging its members to contact a number of U.S. senators to express strong and enthusiastic support for John Bolton’s nomination as U.N. ambassador. Couple defends soldier display to hundreds of protestors and supporters.
SACRAMENTO—Two groups, alike in size and passion, took to the streets of Land Park Tuesday night, occupying opposite sides of Marty Way and fighting for two opposing viewpoints. The heavy rain they experienced could not slick their thirsty souls, nor could the cold evening run them home. With both sides dug in, the groups looked more as soldiers entrenched for warfare than average citizens expressing their First Amendment Right. It was the very right of Free Speech that brought the crowds of hundreds to the quiet Sacramento Neighborhood Tuesday in the first place. Since last Friday, political groups and private citizens have argued over the tastefulness of an effigy raised in front of a house situated along the west side of Marty Way. Homeowners Steve and Virginia Pearcy placed a stuffed figure dressed in desert camouflage above their front window outside their home. The effigy, which hung above Iraqi and Palestinian flags, held a poster with the words, “Bush Lied, I Died.” The effigy remained above the house until someone trespassed on the Pearcy’s property and removed the figure. A second effigy was also stolen from the property. “For those who ever decide to post a similar message, we want you to know we will support your right to free speech with as much vigor and enthusiasm as all the people who supported us here tonight,” Steve Pearcy said, surrounded by hundreds of supporters and dozens of television news cameras. “We just wanted to let everyone here know, that whenever we put up a message in front of our house, the intent is to leave it up until that message has reached a sufficient number of people. At this time we don’t feel a need to replace our soldier display, but we’ll never be deterred.” Pro-War and Pro-Troop organizations called the Pearcy’s effigy “disgusting,” saying that it dishonored the troops. The demonstration brought out the pundit in all, with everyone from private citizens and politicians to radio hosts and high school students determined to weigh in on the matter. Some, like radio host Mark Williams, thought the effigy qualified as a hate crime, and asked city officials to investigate. Others thought the demonstration was an appropriate use of First Amendment rights, and argued that the effigy said a lot about people’s feelings over the war in Iraq. The conflicts of viewpoints drew citizens to the streets after Move America Forward, a conservative group founded to support Republican President George W. Bush, announced it was holding a protest. Anti-war groups and Free Speech activists lined themselves before the Pearcy’s home, attempting to deflect the protestors’s calls while shouting some of their own. Soaked and covered with mud, the protestors remained outside for hours. Both sides sang patriotic songs, both sides claimed they supported the troops, and both sides took turns chanting, “Shame on you.” Dividing the two, however, was more than a bevy of Sacramento police officers. Standing but a few feet from one another the two groups were an oceans apart in what each thought accounted for an appropriate use of Free Speech. Melanie Morgan, co-chairman of Move America Forward, rallied her wet troops, telling them that while the Pearcy’s have a right to hang their display, they have a right to protest it. “I want to thank you all for your effort to show the entire Bay Area, Sacramento, California and the rest of the country, but most importantly to our men and women who have emailed today from Iraq and Afghanistan saying they are horrified by the effigy they have seen on the television news,” Morgan said. “We don’t want them thinking for a moment that this is how our country feels about them.” Click here to read full story
