Stuffed Animals Collected Through ‘Operation Fuzzy Wuzzy’

SACRAMENTO, Calif.—A Northern California boy is working to help the children who survived the Russian school siege by starting a program called “Operation Fuzzy Wuzzy.”

Hundreds of teddy bears and stuffed animals have been donated since 11-year-old Adam Johns kicked off the project after seeing the attack on a Russian school on television. Adam said he hopes every donation collected will a make big difference.

“To help them feel better ... (when they go) back to school,” he said.

Russian-American Yuriy Butaev said his wife’s family in Russia lost six children in the attacks, and that what Adam and the community are doing speaks volumes.

“I mean, it’s very nice of them to do that. I’m sure lot of children there are going to be grateful,” Butaev said.

Adam teamed up with Move America Forward to make Operation Fuzzy Wuzzy happen.

“This is a small comfort, but this is something we can at least do to let these children know they’re not alone,” Move America Forward executive director Siobhan Guiney said.

Operation Fuzzy Wuzzy wrapped up at 10 a.m. Tuesday, at which time the donations were turned over to Russian American Community Services to be shipped to Belsan, Russia.
