Look Mom – No Kevlar

Congressman Jim Marshall, the representative for Georgia’s 8th congressional District, greets an Iraqi boy in the Jamilla Market, August 17, 2008. Marshall has made 15 trips to Iraq to get a personal assessment of the progress made by coalition forces and heir Iraqi partners.

Rep. Jim Marshall, D-Georgia, and Rep. Christopher Shays, R-Conn., are visiting Iraq in Sadr City, once one of the bloodiest, vicious, terrorist-infested provinces of the country. This is the city in which Casey Sheehan died at the hands of terrorists on April 4, 2004, sparking the anti-war protest of his mother, Cindy, who is now running for Congress.

But, back to the real story.

Sadr City was home of daily bloodbaths and one of the deadliest attacks in the Iraq War. But American troops didn’t back down. We did not cut and run, despite the left’s push to do just that and despite the fact that Nancy Pelosi, the head of the white-flag brigade, is the (alleged) leader of the House.

Now take a look at these pictures, which were taken by our troops. What’s missing?

Congressional representative for the 4th District of Connecticut, Christopher Shays, meets with Iraqi shop owners and vendors during a visit to the Jamilla Market, August 17, 2008. This is Shays’ twentieth visit to Iraq.

If you guessed Kevlar vests and protective helmets, you win!! Better yet, America wins. Yes the Surge has worked and now Iraqi people are working in their own shops and America is more secure.
