MAF Presents: The Daily Blog

Here at the Move America Forward Daily Blog we chronicle the good news on the War on Terrorism you might not have heard about on the evening news. We also shine the spotlight on those whose conduct against our country and our military is unbecoming.

The story of the Wicked Witch Weinerman vs. the Boy Scouts

First, the crazies at the ACLU sued the Boy Scouts because the Scouts don’t condone homosexuality. Now an election official in Cambridge, Mass., stopped the Boy Scouts from collecting goods for American troops serving overseas. Why? Because the bureaucrat lost her patriotism and common sense somewhere in the anti-American sewers that are polluting our nation.

Here’s the story: A local Boy Scouts troop decided back in August that it would like to collect items, such as much-needed toiletries, for our troops. The Boy Scout leader said he got permission from the county to set up collection sites on Election Day.

Marsha Weinerman - The Woman Who Shut Down the Care Package Drive

But some hate-monger complained and that set off a chain of events that lit a fire under Marsha Weinerman (I did not make up her name) and caused her to boot the Boy Scouts’ care package collection bins.

“We just wanted to support the troops,” Boy Scout Patrick O’Donnell told a TV reporter.

What was Ms. Weinerman’s beef with the Boy Scouts efforts? She said they were too pro-war.

Here at Move America Forward we hear this tripe all the time. So I am quite happy to take on and call out the Weinerman’s of the world.

First of all, our military does much more than kill bad people. Just look at our blog and you’ll find stories of our troops caring for babies, building schools for poor children, installing bridges for locals, etc. etc. What in the hell is pro-war about this, Ms. Weinerman?

Ever heard of Jessica Lynch? Yeah, the small woman who proudly served as a soldier and was ambushed by terrorists. Her job was not killing people. She worked in supplies, Ms.  Weinerman.

When Katrina hit, devastating New Orleans, our troops were there saving people. Pro-war? I think not, Ms. Weinerman.

How about the recent wildfires in Southern California that destroyed hundreds of homes. Guess who was there to rescue and help? That’s right. Our troops, Ms. Weinerman.

And this one should not be lost on anyone - least of all the head of the elections department, which Ms. Weinerman is:  it is because of our troops and veterans that we have the right to vote and free elections.

It is sad that somebody with Ms. Weinerman’s ignorance about the American military has the power to hurt our troops and our Boy Scouts. And it sickens me that tax dollars pay her salary.

I hope that everybody will call Ms. Weinerman at (617) 349-4363) and tell her to educate herself before she disrupts the goodwill of others. Tell her she should apologize to the Boy Scouts AND our troops. Then she should help the Boy Scouts, who continue their work away from Weinerman’s scheming reach.

When she’s done with her apology, perhaps Ms. Weinerman should come to Sacramento – on her own dime – and help us pack thousands of care packages that we are sending to our troops.

I don’t want to hear any whining, Weinerman. Our men and women are sweating, bleeding and dying for you. So show some respect and appreciation.

A Day of Thanks for our Troops

What happens when the sun is casting warm rays in a family park and hundreds of patriots show up to thank American troops? The whole world will soon see when commercials are aired nationally to thank our Armed Forces.

Film crews worked several hours on Tuesday as flag-waving patriots, veterans, and even active duty servicemen and women showed up for a day of honoring our troops at Sacramento’s Land Park. More than 100 folks made greeting cards, sang, and packed boxes of goods for our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.

“We will never forget, never, the sacrifices of our men and women,” Gold Star mother Debbie Lee told the crowd.  Blue Star Mother Deborah Johns talked about what it’s like to have a child serving overseas during he holidays.  ‘It is very difficult to have an empty chair at the table,” Johns said, as her voice broke with emotion.

During the early party of the gathering, the Young Marines acted as Color Guard and held Old Glory throughout the rally. Nothing can make me smile like children who understand what it means to love the United States of America.

Diana Nagy, who has the voice of an angel, overwhelmed the crowd with her singing and encouraged everybody to sing with her. A wave of warmth, of intense spirit, drew all together. We were there to support our troops, not just with words, but with gifts of love, faith and trust.

Of course, we are all sending cards, cookies, coffee, jerky, and other goodies that our men and women enjoy. But our troops ask for nothing. At the very least, we can give our prayers and support.

I am amazed everyday as I work with the folks at Move America Forward, the volunteers who come in the middle of the week and prepare soldiers’ packages. They were all busting their hind-ends on Tuesday, making sure every child had crayons for drawing cards, and the elderly had water and a place to sit.

These are the same people who stand up to those who demean our troops, who attack our recruiters such as the officers in Berkeley. I was not around during World War II, but I can imagine that the strength and determination that Americans felt after the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor is the same thing we feel when we get together and work as a team for our troops and, ultimately, for our country.

My best friend, Melanie Morgan, who is also chairman of Move America Forward, is an inspiration. She selflessly puts the needs of our troops ahead of herself. She doesn’t flinch as hate-mongers attack her and take her words out of context. It is nothing, she believes, when it comes to her beloved American troops.

Move America Forward is nothing without its members and those who give of themselves to strengthen America against her enemies. After the rally on Tuesday, we all ate sandwiches and took a break – except for the children who can eat and make cards at the same time.

I listened to conversations between people who had never met. They shared stories of the times they served in Vietnam, Korea, or how they spent Thanksgiving and Christmas away from home.

In a way, it was a coming home for some. For others, it was our way to say thank you.

Veterans Day Through the Eyes of a GoldStar Mother

Debbie Lee stands next to Lt. Col. Buzz Patterson who holds a picture of her son, Marc Alan Lee
Today is the nationally recognized day for Veterans, whom we honor everyday at Move America Forward. Following is a poignant article written by Debbie Lee, the proud mother of a son who gave his life for us.

By Debbie Lee
It is with great respect and deep understanding that I write this letter to honor each and every Veteran that has served or is serving our great Country! I understand and appreciate all who have given so much for me so that I could enjoy my daily freedoms. I was able to sleep well in the safety of my bed last night because you served.

I was able to pray before my meal this morning in a public place without fearing arrest, because you gave.

I am able to freely speak my mind and voice my opinion without fear of retaliation against me or my family, because you cared.

I am able to stand up for what I believe in and not have a Dictators thoughts and opinions forced down my throat, because you stood up to the call to defend.

I am free to worship the God who created me in His image, because you were selfless in your actions.

To each one of you I speak from the bottom of my heart when I say Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!!! You are my Heroes and I want to remember and honor you this Veterans Day. Not a single day goes by that I don’t think of the sacrifices you and your families have given!

I am actually on North Island Naval Base as I write this. My room looks out over the ocean and Point Loma where Ft RoseCrans National Cemetery is located and where my son Marc Alan Lee was laid to rest on Aug 2nd 2006. Many of you knew Marc or know his story and remember that he was the first Navy Seal to give his life in Iraq. I also remember him today and his sacrifice. Thank you son! His headstone says “Loved deeply, Deeply loved.” I deeply love and miss him, and am so proud of him. “Greater love has no one than this than he laid down his life for his friends.” John 15:13 The love doesn’t go any deeper than that! He loved deeply! He loved his brothers he served with, he loved me, he loved his family, he loved this nation, he loved his freedoms, he loved God, and he gave. He gave it all! That’s what a hero does. They are willing to give their lives for others. Each one of you are my heroes!

Each one of you have deeply loved this country too! Thank you!

Each one of you were willing to give your life if required for this country. Thank you!

Many of you have given your blood, and been wounded for this country. Thank you!

Many of you have known your friends and brothers who paid the ultimate sacrifice just like my son Marc! Thank you!

As I have traveled around this country speaking out in support of you ‘our defenders of freedom,’ I have met many of you and have been so deeply touched by your stories and your sacrificial service to this nation. I don’t take for granted our freedom which isnt’ free, it comes at a cost and you willingly paid that for me. So please remember this Veteran’s Day that I am your biggest fan and that you are deeply appreciated and loved.

From a grateful Gold Star Mom and Proud American,

Debbie Lee

Attention those near Louisville, Kentucky

The good people at VetsForFreedom.org have put out a call for help.  A wonderful event to honor our veterans that takes place this Saturday is being targeted by MoveOn.org who plan to protest the event as part of their shameless ongoing anti-military efforts.

Here’s the call for help that we received and that I want to pass on to you.  Please do whatever you can to show up and turn out and stand with our veterans as they come under hostile fire from the despicable MoveOn.org crowd:

____________________________

Dear Kentucky Vets for Freedom Member:

In honor of Veterans Day, Vets for Freedom invites you to attend a Tribute to Veterans this Saturday, November 10th in Louisville at 3 pm.  The event will be held at 16300 Eastwood Cutoff Road, Louisville KY.

This is a fantastic opportunity to support our troops and to honor their sacrifice.

Unfortunately, Moveon.org is going to protest this fantastic tribute to American veterans.  Please forward this invite to other friends or neighbors who would be interested in supporting our troops and honoring their sacrifices.

Here is an example of the Moveon.org protesters’ plan for targeting a tribute to our nation’s veterans:

Subject: PLEASE READ: Pro-war town hall rally coming to Louisville
Dear LPAC and Iraq Campaign Supporters,

On Saturday November 10th, Vets for Freedom & Vets for Victory will host a pro-war “town hall rally” in Louisville. These groups are attempting to portray to local and national media that Kentuckians actually support the Iraq War and Senator McConnell’s support of the White House Iraq policies.

On October 17, Vets for Freedom hosted a “town hall rally” in Walton, KY. While the group hoped to show pro-war results in a conservative area of the Commonwealth, the weak turnout of pro-war citizens and the strong showing of anti-war veterans did not not allow them to achieve their goal. Vets for Freedom is trying very hard to change that reality. Last week they announced an aggressive national recruitment drive and a second town hall in KY with guest speaker Erwin Roberts, a pro-war Republican candidate for Rep. John Yarmuth’s seat.

In response, on Saturday November 10, the Iraq Campaign needs you to join us as we establish a strong and respectful presence at their next “town hall rally”. Vets For Freedom & Vets for Victory are coming to our town and we need to again prove to them and the media that the majority of Kentuckians do NOT support an endless, reckless war in Iraq… or Iran!

They are reacting to the overwhelming success of the KY Iraq Summer & Iraq Campaign… Will you help us continue to succeed?

Please join us on:

Saturday, November 10 3pm-5pm
Eastwood Community Center
16300 Eastwood Cutoff Road
Louisville KY 40245

This meeting should be of very high importance to all of us who do not support the reckless, endless war in Iraq!

If you have any questions or would like to learn more about these events, please feel free to call/email Sara (her contact info is listed below).

See you on Saturday Nov. 10!

All the best,
Sara, Shawn & Aniello
