Al Qaeda Crippled By U.S. Strategy

Pete Hegseth, Executive Director of Vets for Freedom, has written an excellent column on the success of “the surge” strategy in Iraq.  It was published at National Review and picked up by CBS News.

Here’s an excerpt:

As the director of an Iraq and Afghanistan veteran’s organization, I follow the headlines from Iraq very closely. So, it’s always news to me when there is little news from Iraq…at least from the mainstream media.

Over the last few weeks, with the exception of the unfortunate Blackwater story, headlines from Iraq have been few and far between.

Why is this the case? There must be a reason. And I believe the reason is rooted both in what has happened and what has not.

First Navy Medal of Honor Winner in ‘War on Terror’

A story of greatness in the Navy Times.

Lt. Michael Murphy, while shot and wounded in Afghanistan, managed to crawl onto a ridgeline and radio headquarters at the nearby air base for them to send in reinforcements. He later died of his wounds.

SAN DIEGO — Two years after his death in a harrowing firefight on a mountaintop in Afghanistan, Lt. Michael P. Murphy, a SEAL from Patchogue, N.Y., will receive the nation’s highest combat honor, Navy officials said.

A Navy spokeswoman confirmed Oct. 11 the decision by President Bush approving the posthumous award of the Medal of Honor, the first for the Navy for the wars in Iraq or Afghanistan.

Sheehan Urges Troops to Commit Treason

“Peace Mom” Cindy Sheehan and her usual band of suspects want American troops and their leaders to refuse any orders to defend America against the aggressive regime of Iran.
In a petition posted at AfterDowningStreet.org, Sheehan and others ask military commanders and their troops should not engage Iran, which is already killing our troops in Iraq.

ATTENTION: Joint Chiefs of Staff and all U.S. Military Personnel:
Do not attack Iran.
Any preemptive U.S. attack on Iran would be illegal.
Any preemptive U.S. attack on Iran would be criminal.
We, the citizens of the United States, respectfully urge you, courageous men and women of our military, to refuse any order to preemptively attack Iran, a nation that represents no serious or immediate threat to the United States. To attack Iran, a sovereign nation of 70-million people, would be a crime of the highest magnitude

.

The petition offers some legal advice, which is highly suspect coming from Sheehan who has failed to pay taxes and regularly cools her heels in the Hoosegow after ignoring peace officers’ requests.

Know the Risks Involved in Refusing an Illegal Order or Signing This Statement:
We knowingly and willingly make this plea, aware of the risk that, in violation of our First Amendment rights, we could be charged under remaining sections of the unconstitutional Espionage Act or other unconstitutional statute, and that we could be fined, imprisoned, or barred from government employment.
We make this plea, also aware that you have no easy options. If you obey an illegal order to participate in an aggressive attack on Iran, you could potentially be charged with war crimes. If you heed our call and disobey an illegal order you could be falsely charged with crimes including treason. You could be falsely court martialed. You could be imprisoned.

Instead of badgering the U.S. military, Sheehan and Co. should take up their gripes with the tyrants of the world, such as the Iranian regime, which has stepped up its attacks on citizens.

U.S. snags Iranian brigadier general in Iraq, and other news the left abhors

My friend, Alireza Jafarzadeh, knows the truth about what is happening inside Iran at the hands of the mullahs and the murderous regime. Women and children are being stoned to death even as the Regime exports its murder to Iraq where its weapons and trained thugs are killing our soldiers.
Alireza is a FOX news foreign affairs correspondent and Iranian expatriate that want to bring Democracy to Iran.

As the evidence continues to mount about Iran’s violent intervention in Iraq, export of terrorism and systematic lies to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Ahmadinejad and the Islamic fundamentalist regime are pushed further into a dark corner of global isolation.
In Iraq, proof of Iran’s imbedded terrorist network continues to grow. On September 20, U.S. troops seized a Qods Force commander Mahmoud Farhadi in northern Iraq and charged that he had been operating as an agent in Iraq for 10 years.

Go to Alireza’s column for more on Iran’s war crimes against the United States.

The only question now is why Cindy Sheehan and her ilk want to continue to lie about the Iranian threat while the regime slaughters Americans.

Call to Action for Southern Californians!

Controversial California Assembly Majority Leader, Karen Bass, is hosting an Iraq War Town Hall this Sunday, October 14, 2007 that seems to be a stacked anti-war/anti-military endeavor.

Since Assemblywoman Bass is supposed to be a public servant, it’s important that mainstream Americans be present to have their voices heard, so this doesn’t turn into another exercise of Bash the Military.  Congresswoman Diane Watson is scheduled to attend as well.

These are the issues that Assemblymember Bass says are important:

Congressional hearings on Blackwater?
180,000 “military contractors” are in Iraq - Is this a new phenomena?
Is the U.S moving toward a private military?
What’s really happening in Iraq & how does the war affect our community?
Portions of the award-winning documentary No End In Sight
by Charles Ferguson will also be shown at the event

Instead of being a forum to highlight the excellence of service by the all-volunteer military our nation has to defend us, it sounds like it will be an attack on our troops, their commanders and this nation.

Please, if you live in Southern California, or in Nevada or Arizona, make an effort to attend this important event and make sure that they hear from patriots who support our military and our troops!

Here’s the time and location:
Sunday, October 14, 2007
3:00pm – 5:00pm
Hamilton High School Auditorium
2955 South Robertson
(Two blocks north of 10 Fwy)
Los Angeles, CA 90034

Why We Win

Every once in a while a story comes alongthat describes the guts and love of our troops. In this case, a live rocket-propelled grenade shot by a terrorist pierces a soldier’s leg. Then a team of our bravest fight to keep the injured troop alive – without blowing up others – while removing the live ordnance.
This is why America will not lose. Ever.
