Anti-War Soldier Admits He Fabricated Stories About U.S. Troops

Breaking news to report… it turns out the soldier who posted dispatches of supposed atrocities by U.S. troops in Iraq for The New Republic, Pvt. Scott Thomas Beauchamp, has admitted that he fabricated those accounts.

The Weekly Standard has the scoop - HERE.

THE WEEKLY STANDARD has learned from a military source close to the investigation that Pvt. Scott Thomas Beauchamp--author of the much-disputed “Shock Troops” article in the New Republic’s July 23 issue as well as two previous “Baghdad Diarist” columns--signed a sworn statement admitting that all three articles he published in the New Republic were exaggerations and falsehoods--fabrications containing only “a smidgen of truth,” in the words of our source.

This is another disgusting, shameless chapter by the anti-war actvists in their ongoing propaganda war.  These individuals are deliberately trying to undermine public support for Operation Iraqi Freedom and the missions of our troops who are fighting al-Qaida in Iraq.

Shame on those who claim to support our troops but then work actively to undermine them and their missions!

UPDATE: I was reminded of the fact that The New Republic attacked our “Voices of Soldiers Truth Tour” that we at Move America Forward took to Iraq in July 2005.  They claimed before we even left for Iraq that our reporting would be dishonest.  Ahem, you were saying Mr. Beinart and the editorial staff of The New Republic?

2 Approaches in Iraq: Victory & Defeat

Eleanor Clift has an article at Newsweek Online detailing the efforts by Americans Against Escalation in Iraq (AAEI) to undermine the missions of U.S. troops in Iraq and call for surrender to al-Qaida in Iraq.  The group is involved in a summer push to pressure lawmakers to call it quits and declare defeat in Iraq.  You can read more about their current activities - HERE.

AAEI has been hiring activists as part of their “Iraq Summer” campaign as part of an effort to “fracture critical elements of the Republican base of support for the war by early fall.”

Americans Against Escalation in Iraq (AAEI) plans to deploy 110 organizers to the Districts of critical House and Senate Republicans who still support the President’s disastrous policy in Iraq.  There (sic) job will be to execute a national program to help fracture critical elements of the Republican base of support for the war by early fall.

The group recently made news for staking out Senator Mitch McConnell’s (R-Kentucky) house

One of the main funding sources for AAEI is money from labor unions.  Another source of muscle behind the group is MoveOn.org which provides not only a source of money but the bodies for grassroots activism drills.  MoveOn.org claims to have more than 3 million people, and a significant number of the group’s members were active in Howard Dean’s presidential campaign.

A Different Message:  Victory in Iraq

There’s a different message being put out by Vice President Dick Cheney who has been more active with public appearances and interviews with the press these past few days.

Vice President Cheney delivered a speech to the Marine Corps League yesterday, calling Iraq the central front in the war on terrorism.

“Terrorists are under no illusion about the importance of the struggle in Iraq… Iraq’s relevance to the war on terror simply could not be more plain… And here at home, that makes one thing, above all, very clear. If you support the war on terror, then you ought to support it where the terrorists are fighting us… This is no time to lose heart and make a precipitous withdrawal from Iraq, as some in Congress are demanding… To quit this fight would be to lose this fight, and the consequences would be grievous.”

The above actions represent the efforts of people with two different approaches towards the war in Iraq.

We here at Move America Forward will work with anyone of any party, Republican or Democrat or Libertarian or Independent or otherwise, so long as it involves supporting our troops, AND their missions, and rooting for them to come home victorious and not in defeat.

America’s support for the “Surge” is growing

Note:  I see that my good friend Melanie Morgan, our Chairman at Move America Forward, was just as eager to share the great news on the rising poll numbers for “the surge” in Iraq as I was.  I’m going to leave both posts up as it’s news that’s worth repeating, and you can chose from whose lips you want to hear it from grin

Public Supporting Troop “Surge”

A new poll shows that the good news in Iraq is finally filtering through to the public, which supports the “surge” “surge” in greater numbers than only a month ago.

In the latest USA TODAY/Gallup Poll, taken Friday through Sunday, the proportion of those who said the additional troops are “making the situation better” rose to 31% from 22% a month ago. Those who said it was “not making much difference” dropped to 41% from 51%.

The change in attitudes comes as the anti-war Democrat Congress loses major ground in its own public polls. The spineless Congress and Senate, which include some weak-kneed GOPers, better face it: The United States does not like to lose. If you are a loser, take your leftist friends and go to Cuba where you can lick the shoes of Venezuelan dictator Hugo Chavez and other world losers.
And when you Daily Kos whiners are finished slapping your backs for cornering the likes of Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, you might want to get ready for Sept. 15, when patriots will roll into D.C. by the thousands to support our troops and our country.

Associated Press: Military Shows Gains In Iraq

More positive news on “the surge” in Iraq, this time from the Associated Press which report that shows “the surge” is making gains.

According to the AP news report, “In two weeks of observing the U.S. military on the ground and interviewing commanders, strategists and intelligence officers, it’s apparent that the war has entered a new phase in its fifth year. It is a phase with fresh promise…”
