Vacaville Stop of Pro-Troop Bus Tour

Vacaville- Monday, September 19

.
Deborah Johns Greets Supporters in Vacaville

The “We Support Our Troops And Their Mission” Bus Tour continued Monday in Vacaville, California, with a raucous rally in front of the Vacaville Veterans Hall.  About 100 people showed up to see Move America Forward co-founder Melanie Morgan and Marine Mom Deborah Johns speak.  Also joining the tour was Gold-Star Dad Joseph Williams, who resides in Vacaville.  Joseph’s son, Michael, died in combat in Operation Iraqi Freedom.

The Vacaville stop was particularly important, as it is also the home of anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan, who has been making headlines with anti-military comments in recent months.  This past week she called for a withdrawal of the occupation forces from Iraq and New Orleans.  (Yes, Cindy Sheehan attacked our military men and women who are helping out the reliefs efforts in New Orleans!)

The Vacaville Reporter covered the rally stop.  CLICK HERE to read their news story on the stop.

Patricia King, of Suisun came out with her granddaughter Veronica.  Mrs. King’s husband and brothers are all in the military and loves that there is a rally for them.  “The more bodies at these events, the better,” she said.  “Even if all you do is come out and wave a little flag, it’s worthwhile.” Asked why she brought her granddaughter, she said, “Because I want to help raise her right.”

Curtis Cardwell, his wife Christina, and their two children Jacob and Jillian also came out.  He emphasized that while he mourns Cindy Sheehan’s loss, she does not speak for them.  He wanted to ensure that Iraq is not turned into another Vietnam.

Also speaking was Solano County Supervisor Mike Reagan.  Mr. Reagan has been supporting the pro-troop movement for some time now and spent twenty-eight years in the Air Force.

San Francisco Kickoff of National Pro Troop Bus Tour

San Francisco- Monday, September 19

San Francisco: People signing our “Pro-Troop” sheets.

The continuation of the “You Don’t Speak for Me, Cindy” tour kicked off Monday morning with the “We Support Our Troops AND Their Mission” national bus tour.

We began the day with a rally in front of the studios of KSFO-AM 560 in San Francisco, California.  Move America Forward co-founder and KSFO talk show host, Melanie Morgan, and Marine Mom Deborah Johns (founder of Northern California Marine Moms) spoke before a crowd of about sixty.  The Oakland Tribune, and the associated sister-newspapers, had a very good story - CLICK HERE to READ.

Deborah Johns led last month’s “You Don’t Speak For Me, Cindy” caravan from San Francisco to Crawford, Texas – with rallies along the way, culminating in a giant pro-troop rally in Crawford that attracted thousands of supporters.

The message of today’s kickoff rally was that the negative coverage of our military and the mission of our troops by the old line media was only serving to hurt the country in our efforts to combat terrorism.

Veterans and retired military personnel made up much of the crowd.  In attendance was Ron Stone of San Jose, who spent 21 years in the Navy, and his wife Pamela.  The Stones turned out to support Move America Forward because of its purpose: countering the media and its anti-war propaganda.

Mr. Stone and his wife also support Operation: Care and Comfort ( www.OperationCareAndComfort.org ), which sends care packages to the troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.  “I support the troops with my time, my money, and my effort,” Stone said.

Also present was Joseph Kearns of San Leandro with his two grandchildren, Olivia and Jake.  Mr. Kearns felt it was important to support the troops and organizations like Move America Forward.  Asked why he brought his grandchildren to the rally, he said, “Because it’s my day off, and I hang out with my grandchildren on my day off.  The children are our future, after all.”
The cross-country bus tour continues on to Vacaville, Sacramento and Reno on its first day of travel.

If you live too far away from any of the cities listed below, don’t despair!  You can participate by taking a bed sheet (see the photo above) and putting a big pro-troop message on it (use thick markers, paint, etc… for the text and/or design).  Then, get as many people as you can to write a personal message in smaller print (markers or pens) with your name/signature on it - try and fill the blank spots up with as many notes as possible!  Then mail the sheet (to arrive by Saturday, September 24th) to:

Courtyard by Marriot
