Voinovich Accuser Admits to Plagiarism - Anti Bush Agenda
The news media and Democrats on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee have been despicable in their anti-John Bolton smear campaign.
What they’ve not reported to you is that the highly touted Bolton critic, Melody Townsel - who accused Bolton of ‘acting like a madman’ and chasing her through the halls of a Russian hotel - was an anti-Bush activist (she founded the Dallas Chapter of “Mothers Opposing Bush") who has been discredited by her superiors and forced to come forward to admit that she committed plagiarism when serving as a journalist.

Anti-Voinovich Ads Halted
MAF Suspends Anti-Voinovich Ad Campaign – Confident the Ohio Republican Has a ‘New Outlook’ on Bolton Nomination (SACRAMENTO) – The organization strongly backing the nomination of John Bolton to serve as U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, Move America Forward (website: www.MoveAmericaForward.org), has indefinitely suspended its radio ad campaign that had targeted Senator George Voinovich (R-Ohio). The final ads will be broadcast today – Monday, April 25, 2005. “We’ve received reassurances from very reliable sources that Senator Voinovich has obtained a new and fair outlook on the Bolton nomination. At this point in time we believe John Bolton’s nomination will progress from the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and Mr. Bolton will be able to receive an up or down vote from the full U.S. Senate – which is the way it should be,” said Howard Kaloogian, Co-Chairman of Move America Forward. Move America Forward has spent tens of thousands of dollars airing radio ads throughout the state of Ohio on more than one-dozen news/talk radio stations. The ad campaign began Thursday, April 21st. In addition, the organization activated its 200,000+ members and supporters to communicate their views on the Bolton nomination with Senator Voinovich’s office. According to media reports and sources on Capitol Hill, Senator Voinovich’s office was inundated with phone calls, FAXes and emails. Within a couple of hours of Voinovich’s action Tuesday, Move America Forward announced on its Web site and in faxes to news organizations that it would target Voinovich for his “obstructionist conduct.” On Thursday, the day the ads began running, Voinovich’s office phones were jammed with callers and computer e-mail in-baskets were clogged with messages related to the Bolton confirmation. It was no better Friday. “The telephone lines are consistently busy,” said Voinovich spokeswoman Marcie Ridgway. “And we’re getting lots of e-mails because they posted our e-mail addresses on their Web site.” [Source: Sacramento Bee, “Kaloogian Targets Fellow Republican,” April 23, 2005] The reason for such a strong reaction from the American public stems from the conduct of Senate Democrats who are being obstructionist. “This ‘Stop Bolton’ campaign has been orchestrated by the same people who lost the last presidential election campaign. It’s based not on John Bolton’s qualifications or track record, which are exemplary, but instead on a smear campaign the likes of which haven’t been seen since Clarence Thomas, Anita Hill and the pubic hair on a Coke can,” Kaloogian said. “The Senators on the Foreign Relations Committee are supposed to be looking out for the interests of the American people. Polls have made it very clear that the public wants to see a dramatic change in how the United Nations conducts itself. The UN has its lowest approval ratings in the history of the organization and John Bolton is exactly the kind of strong, pro-American ambassador we need to take on the corruption and anti-Americanism that is becoming a dominant presence at the UN. “Senators John Kerry and Barbara Boxer weren’t looking out for the American people’s interests or trying to advance UN reforms when they began their campaign to smear John Bolton. They were shamelessly trying to score political points against President Bush, and its imperative that all Senators, Republican and Democrat alike, reject the dirty tactics of Senators Boxer, Kerry and Biden,” Kaloogian said. Move America Forward’s other Co-Chair, Melanie Morgan, is in Washington, D.C. this week (attending the “Hold Their Feet to the Fire” immigration reform rally) and announced that Move America Forward board members will decide within the next 48 hours whether to commence an effort to persuade Democrat Senators Russ Feingold (D-Wisconsin) and Bill Nelson (D-Florida) into voting for Bolton. “I don’t think the Democrat Senators on Capitol Hill realized how badly the American public wants to see someone who will speak up for American interests at the UN. The personal smear tactics of Barbara Boxer and John Kerry are backfiring on them and we are determined to make sure the people of this nation see exactly what kind of deplorable conduct these Senators have engaged in,” Morgan said.
“In the 2004 elections voters were presented with a candidate who argued for a ‘global test’ to determine American foreign policy decisions. That approach was mocked by the public and rejected by the voters and it is rejected by John Bolton. I find it hard to believe that some of these Senators could be naïve enough to try and recycle this failed idea now as it relates to how we approach the United Nations. I am hopeful that Senator’s Nelson and Feingold will come to their senses,” Morgan concluded.

Ad Targeting Voinovich
[dinner sound effects/cutlery] Wife: Honey, were you watching C-SPAN today? Did you hear how disloyal Senator Voinovich was to Republicans and President Bush? Voinovich stood with the Democrats and refused to vote for John Bolton, the man President Bush has chosen to fight for the United States at the UN Husband: No, I was streaming it on the Internet at the office, but from what I could tell, Senator Voinovich played hookey from the hearings? Wife: Yeah that’s right. He’s missed most of the Bolton confirmation hearings, but then shows up at the last minute and stabs the President and Republicans right in the back. Husband: That’s ridiculous – the United Nations needs reform, we need someone who will stand up for the United States and fight the UN’s corruption and anti-Americanism. Wife: Shame on Senator Voinovich. After the Democrats smeared Condoleeza Rice for Secretary of State and Alberto Gonzales for Attorney General, how could Voinovich side with the Democrats in smearing John Bolton? Husband: It seems like Senator Voinovich has become a traitor to the Republican Party. Wife: Enough’s enough. I’m logging on to Move America Forward dot com to register my protest with Senator Voinovich’s office. Husband: What was that site? Move America Forward dot com ? Wife: Yep, Move America Forward dot com CLICK HERE to contribute to this ad campaign to make sure this ad airs night and day throughout Ohio ______________________________________ CONTACT SENATOR VOINOVICH’S OFFICE TO REGISTER YOUR PROTEST:

MAF To Target Voinovich in Ad Campaign
(SACRAMENTO) – The organization strongly backing the nomination of John Bolton to serve as U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, Move America Forward (website: www.MoveAmericaForward.org), expressed outrage today that a Republican United States Senator would refuse to vote to confirm the President’s nominee in committee. As a result, Ohio U.S. Senator George Voinovich will be the target of radio ads criticizing Senator Voinovich for his obstructionist conduct in today’s Bolton confirmation hearings.
“Shame on Senator Voinovich. President Bush nominated a terrific man to serve as U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations in John Bolton. Senator Voinovich indicated he was absent from the Bolton confirmation hearings, which explains his ignorance of Mr. Bolton’s qualifications to serve as a voice for America’s interests at the United Nations,” said Melanie Morgan, Co-Chair of Move America Forward.
Move America Forward has already aired television commercials supporting Bolton’s nomination on national television networks.
“We are going to put our resources into putting the heat on Senator Voinovich until he sees the light. Standing up for American interests at the UN is urgent, and further delays only aid those who merrily wear the ‘Blame America First’ label,” said Morgan.

Democrat Leader Harry Reid’s Office Tells Off Private Citizen… For Supporting John Bolton
The following is an email exchange forwarded to Move America Forward by Cory Estes of Bucyrus, Ohio. Mr. Estes is a 20 year veteran of the U.S. Air Force and wrote to Senate Democrat Leader Harry Reid, requesting that Reid support John Bolton, the man nominated by President Bush to serve as U.S. Ambassador to the UN, and not smear Bolton during the confirmation process.
Note - we have removed Mr. Estes’ personal email address from this exchange:
-----Original Message-----
Bolton is the best possible person for the job of U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Senator Reid needs to get off of his extreme partisan horse, quit playing political games, and get back to representing his state in the Senate.

That email from Mr. Estes, elicited this response from Democrat Leader Reid’s Chief of Staff, Susan McCue:

And you, cory, need to get off your extreme partisan puppetry and think this through. Blame the UN for the world’s ills if it makes you feel better. But maybe you should stop and think about what you as an individual can proactively do to protect this great nation. Name-calling at the behest of the rich republican propaganda machinery isn’t it. Supporting our two-party constitional democracy is.
Mr. Estes replied to the berating he received from Reid’s Chief of Staff with the following email. However, note that the Read Receipt Mr. Estes received indicates that McCue deleted the email without even opening it up to read:

Letter Supporting Bolton Sent to U.S. Senators
April 18, 2005
Honorable XXXXX XXXXXX
Dear Senator: We, on behalf of the hundreds of thousands of active supporters of Move America Forward, are requesting your support for President George W. Bush’s nomination of John Bolton as United States Ambassador to the United Nations. The President is entitled to his nominee for the post of U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, and he has selected a man who is both qualified and experienced to carry out the important foreign policy responsibilities incumbent with this post. The perilous nature of the world today necessitates a strong and forceful advocate of American interests, especially when representing our nation’s interests at the United Nations. Mr. Bolton’s record is impeccable in this regard. We grew up at a time when the United Nations was considered the best hope for mankind to avert world wars and sustain a lasting peace for future generations. We know that many Americans have participated, at some point in their life, with efforts to aid the United Nations missions – whether as children collecting small change for UNICEF during Halloween, or through assistance efforts to help the victims of the South Asian tsunami. We have been grateful for those success stories where killer diseases were eradicated, and always hopeful that UN peacekeepers would restore peace and civility in some of the world’s most unstable and dangerous regions. Unfortunately, the record of the United Nations in the past two decades has been very disappointing overall, as the UN has turned into a gathering place for the worst representatives of civilized society. Despots, dictators and tyrants have formed voting blocs in the United Nations General Assembly, seemingly intent on advancing an anti-American agenda. The U.S. has been ridiculed endlessly by UN member nations and officials because of their contempt for our nation’s economic prowess and military strength – even mocking our own heritage of promoting freedom. The UN has failed in many other ways. UN peacekeeping efforts have increasingly proven less effective in preventing conflicts; genocides have occurred without mercy; corruption has become rampant, most brazenly in the Oil for Food program; sex scandals including allegations of raping children are the norm for UN peacekeepers and other UN officials, not the exception; anti-Semitism stands with anti-Americanism as the currency of the realm; the UN has looked ridiculously weak when it could not manage to enforce its own resolutions regarding Iraq; tyrannical dictators, despots and murderous thugs destroy their countries with impunity; and protection of human rights has been horrendous and tragic under the joke of a Human Rights Commission, where the Sudan stood as a member nation at the same time that Libya served as the Commission’s chair. Move America Forward was founded to rally American support for the most important issue facing our nation – the fight against terrorism. It saddens us to observe that the UN has been of little help and even admitted to a disturbing failure to take action. In a recent report by the UN Secretary General’s High-Level Panel on Threats, Challenges and Change, the UN concedes that sanctions against Al-Qaida, “…suffer from lagging support and implementation by Member States and affect only a small subset of known Al-Qaida operatives, while a number of States are lagging behind in their compliance with the directives of the Counter-Terrorism Committee.” No one during the Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing on Bolton’s nomination, neither Republican nor Democrat, could really utter a nice word about the recent conduct of the United Nations. In fact several Democrat Senators claimed that Under Secretary Bolton’s criticisms of the United Nations in the past have been largely on target. Profound disappointment with the UN is widespread. The inescapable truth is that the United Nations, despite all of our wishes, hopes and dreams, has become a failed institution. So where do we go from here? Obviously, we need a strong and effective international organization that can provide a means for nations to cooperate when multilateral actions are required. The President and Mr. Bolton are committed to reforming the United Nations so it can fulfill the dreams of those who worked up the organizations framework back in 1945 in San Francisco. We want to be very honest and blunt with you. We are not at all optimistic that the UN can be saved and reformed. While the record of the UN in the Cold War was hardly satisfactory, the new threat of international terrorism has made it all the more imperative that we initiate the necessary changes in our relationships with international organizations. We believe the UN has long since outlived most of its usefulness, and it more often advances an agenda that is harmful to the American people. However, if there is to be any hope of making the United Nations an ally for peace, freedom and democracy, it can only occur if someone of the caliber, qualifications and demeanor of John Bolton is confirmed as our Ambassador. There are critical international issues that face the United States, and it is important to have a strong voice for economic and political freedom – as prosperous democracies neither start wars nor harbor terrorists. Of the 191 Member states in the United Nations, the non-partisan group Freedom House says that only 40% of them are democratic societies that enjoy political rights and civil liberties. That means more than half of the Members are not allies in promoting democracy and freedom. Every President since Franklin Roosevelt, Democrat and Republican alike, have championed liberty and freedom for the world. They have all known that American security is assured when the rest of the world is both prosperous and free. Can the United Nations be an instrument for such change when so many of the members stand in partial or total defiance of that goal? No wonder the American public has increasingly lost trust and respect for the United Nations. A recent Rasmussen Reports survey found that only 37% of Americans have a favorable opinion of the UN [Rasmussen Reports February 15-16, 2005. Survey of 1,000 adults]. And a recent Gallup poll found that 61% of Americans believe the UN is doing a poor job addressing the problems currently facing the organization - [Gallup poll, February 7-10, 2005]. The time has come to face the reality of what the United Nations has become and look realistically at what positive work they do that can be salvaged, and what important work must we seek from another organization. We have strongly supported the idea of a new organization to fulfill at least some of the United Nation’s mission – an organization comprised of the world’s freedom-loving countries. These are the nations who already do the heavy lifting when it comes to humanitarian relief and peacekeeping efforts. These nations also comprise most of the world’s economic and military power. Wouldn’t a body that showed greater respect for American values serve as a better vehicle to achieve the goals of peace, democracy, liberty, freedom and human dignity in the world? America is a beacon of hope for all those who seek freedom, security, and human rights. We must remember that people wish to come to America precisely because these cherished ideals are lacking in so many other parts of the world. Our goal should be to guarantee American security by spreading the light of liberty around the world. Confirming John Bolton as U.S. Ambassador to the UN is the next step in the necessary journey whereby our nation must come to grips with the responsibilities and burdens of being the world’s only super power. The President of the United States selected John Bolton because he believes he is the right man for the job. We concur that he is the right man for this job, and the President is entitled to his nominee. We strongly support John Bolton’s nomination to serve as United States Ambassador to the United Nations, and we encourage your enthusiastic support. Sincerely,
CO-CHAIRS, MOVE AMERICA FORWARD

Bolton Confirmation Hearings - More Blog Coverage
I’ve come across some interesting discussion and analysis of the Bolton confirmation hearings.
I’ve enjoyed Mark Kilmer’s extensive reporting on what’s being said in the political echo chamber.
Meanwhile, the smart minds over at PowerLine hit the hammer on the nail when they point out that the anti-Bolton efforts are disastrous to the Democrat party. Senator’s Feingold and Nelson (of Florida) should really give serious consideration to whether they want to follow down the path of political suicide that the likes of Code Pink and MoveOn.org seem intent on taking the Democrat Party on.
And I found the comments posted at Busy Busy Busy rather humorous. It seems those who are not keen on John Bolton find our inclusion of Senator Joe Lieberman in our “Support John Bolton” ad to be very disturbing.
Among my favorites were their pairings of Lieberman with other politicians for a future Presidential or Vice Presidential run:
Lieberman/North ‘08
Maybe he can give the keynote speech for the 2008 GOP convention...?
Norquist/Lieberman ‘08!
But where a(re) [sic] Guckert & DeLay?
And then concluding with this comment: “They just do that shit with Lieberman to piss us off.”

BOLTON HEARINGS REAX:
(SACRAMENTO) – The Co-Chairmen of Move America Forward issued the following statement in response to the first few hours in the confirmation hearings for the nomination of John Bolton to serve as U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations.
Move America Forward (website: www.MoveAmericaForward.org) is running television ads supporting John Bolton’s nomination on several national television networks. The pro-Bolton ads can be seen online at www.MoveAmericaForward.org
HOWARD KALOOGIAN, Co-Chair, Move America Forward:
“What we’ve seen today by Bolton opponents like Senator Barbara Boxer and Joseph Biden is a clear display of the Blame America First mentality that permeates the United Nations today.
“For some reason, certain Senators on the Foreign Relations Committee seem to take offense with the notion that John Bolton believes that it is more important to advance U.S. interests than the interests of an international organization whose masters are often some of the world’s most notorious dictators, despots and tyrants.
“John Bolton is a man of accomplishment who has never wavered in his commitment to defending America’s best interests. As the U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. he will speak truth to power.
“So far we’ve seen nothing but inexcusable grandstanding from those still bitter that their party lost in the last presidential election, and they keep clamoring for a different foreign policy than was endorsed by the American people. The Senators who are attacking John Bolton seem to have forgotten that the candidate who advocated for a “global test” before the U.S. tookmade foreign policy decisions was defeated at the polls. ”
MELANIE MORGAN, Co-Chair, Move America Forward:
“Thus far in the John Bolton hearings we have seen Senators more concerned with the interests of Kofi Annan, than what is best for the United States. Shame on these Senators for attacking John Bolton for standing up for American values.
“The hostility and rudeness emanating from Senators Feingold and Boxer is disgraceful. They have treated John Bolton as if he was someone who advocated anti-American policies and views.
“He has been an unwavering voice for pro-American policies and he has stood up to those who seek to blame America for all the world’s problems.
“The Senators who have ambushed John Bolton seem more in tune with Kofi Annan and the tyrants, despots and dictators who dominate the U.N. than President Bush and the interests of the American people.”
