TRAGEDY AT MILITARY RESERVE CENTER

TRAGEDY AT MILITARY RESERVE CENTER

4  UNARMED MARINES KILLED IN GUN-FREE ZONE
1 LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER INJURED, SHOOTER DEAD

News has been breaking all morning about an active shooter on the attack at a multi-branch military reserve center in Chattanooga, TN. Details have been coming out slowly all morning, where at first we thought there were 5 people shot, now we are hearing reports from Fox news saying that 4 of the victims were US Marines and died from their wounds. One police officer was shot but as far as we know he is still hanging on in critical condition. Local authorities have stated that the incident is over and the shooter is dead.

Our hearts and prayers go out to the families of the victims.

4 Marines reportedly dead in shooting attack at Tennessee Navy facility
Published July 16, 2015
FoxNews.com
The Marines were killed by a gunman who opened fire at a Naval Reserves Operations Center on Amnicola Highway, according to the Chattanooga Times Free Press. Marilyn Hutcheson, who works at Binswanger Glass just across the street from the Naval Reserve Center on Amnicola Highway, said she heard a barrage of gunfire around 11 a.m.The shooting there came around the same time that a gunman in a silver Mustang opened fire at a Navy recruiting office in a strip mall some seven miles away, on Lee’s Highway. The shooter stopped in front of the recruiting facility, shot at the building and drove off, said Brian Lepley, a spokesman with the U.S. Army Recruiting Command in Fort Knox, Ky.

Authorities will not comment on the shooter, whose name is Muhammad Youssef Abdulazeez, who he was or what his motivations were. However there are some troubling bits of evidence coming out.

Our friend and pro-troop blogger Jim Hoft over at the Gateway Pundit blog posted this screenshot of an ISIS twitter account that has previously posted threats against western countries.

This twitter account posted a threatening photo of an ISIS member menacingly holding a knife and the post was made very shortly after the shooting occurred. The tweet also uses the hashtags #Chattanooga #USA and #ISIS.

As of yet we cannot conclude anything about the nature of the shooter or their motivation, it certainly does SOUND like an Islamic radical terrorist attack. The possible tie to the ISIS twitter account just compounds our concern for the safety of our troops especially the military recruiters.

MAF has been on the forefront of this issue since 2008 when we released our report about violence against military recruiting centers called “The Sedition Report”. We collected hundreds of incidents of violence against military personnel from around the country to show that this was a troubling and dangerous phenomenon. In studying the reports we found that all of the attacks were perpetrated by Islamic extremists, or just as disturbingly, by anti-military far-left Americans who lashed out at the military as a form protest against the war and wanted to discourage people from enlisting.

In addition to the attacks, there were also many more incidents of vandalism and disruptive protests like the one MAF fought against here in Berkeley, where CODE PINK was attacking the Marine military recruiting center. When Move America Forward held a press conference in Washington D.C. to release The Sedition Report to the world, CODE PINK even protested our press conference, being disruptive and had to be forcibly removed by security!

This shooting sounds just like all the attacks, protests and vandalism that we cataloged in the Sedition Report years ago, and it sounds just like the modus operandi of the far-left anti-war “peace” protesters like those Code Pink wackos.

This incident ALSO brings up memories of the Fort Hood Massacre perpetrated by the Nidal Hassan, a devotee of Islam who had recently been radicalized and turned to terrorism. Hassan killed 13 military personnel and injured 30 more when he opened fire in Fort Hood, and after that incident many in the political world asked why our troops were not allowed to carry guns on base. Move America Forward joined those who urged the Obama Administration to look into this issue and perhaps allow troops to carry weapons on base to protect themselves, but nothing was ever done.

It is tragic that the Reserve Center where today’s attack occurred was designated a “GUN-FREE ZONE” and our Marines were not armed. The only person who had a gun was the shooter who wanted to do harm. So we have to ask the question, does it make sense to designate military bases and recruiting centers as GUN-FREE ZONES? Does this protect those inside or just make them soft targets?

These issues will likely be back in the forefront of public discussion for the next few weeks and more details will emerge about this tragic incident. However regardless of what we learn, one thing is clear: our hearts are broken for the families of the brave Marines who lost their lives today, as well as the law enforcement officers who came to their rescue. Their sacrifices should not be diminished and they all ought to receive the same full honors as a soldier who died in Iraq or Afghanistan. They died defending their country.

This will be a very tough fight to win the right for troops to defend themselves on military bases and recruiting centers. But how many more incidents like this have to happen before our political leaders change the policy to let our troops arm and defend themselves just like every other American has the right to do?

When tragedies like this happen, it’s important to remind ourselves about the mission of Move America Forward and why we do what we do. We are here, since 2004, to SUPPORT OUR TROOPS AND THEIR MISSIONS IN THE WAR ON TERROR until all of our troops come home.

Help Sailors Aboard USS Theodore Roosevelt

Friends, as you know about three weeks ago the USS Theodore Roosevelt was dispatched to the Gulf of Aden off the coast of Yemen to stop the flow of Iranian weapons and material support to the Houthi rebels that have taken control of Yemen by bloodthirsty aggression.

Move America Forward had received some requests directly from the sailors aboard the USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT and we sent some care packages their way.

Today, we received a reply back with this photo of the crew of the big aircraft carrier.

These sailors are still in the path of Iran’s Navy and we are now preparing to send more support – make a donation now to get your care package on board this shipment! Hurry! Click here to donate now!

Weeks ago there was a showdown when one convoy of up to 9 Iranian ships that seemed bound for Yemen turned around and went back to Iran after the USS Theodore Roosevelt entered the waters near Yemen. We don’t know what those ships contained but clearly they did not want the US to know what was in those vessels.

Now Iran is saying they plan to send a new fleet to Yemen with humanitarian aid and that they will escort this fleet with Iranian warships to protect them from possible US intervention.

“Iran: Attack on Yemen-Bound Ship ‘Will Spark War in the Region’

BY: Adam Kredo
May 13, 2015 2:56 pm

Iranian military leaders are warning that any efforts to block passage of a supposed aid ship heading for Yemen “will spark war in the region,” according to multiple regional reports.
Iran will not permit its Yemen-bound ship to be inspected by any outside countries, a move that could complicate U.S. efforts to stop Tehran from smuggling weapons and other munitions to Yemeni rebels. The warning also was sent to the Saudi Arabian government, which is positioned against Iran in the fight raging in Yemen.”The countries involved in war against Yemen are no way allowed to inspect the Islamic Republic of Iran’s ship which is carrying humanitarian aid,” Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Marziyeh Afkham said in a statement on Wednesday published by the country’s state-run media.

These ships are purported to contain 2,500 tons of aid supplies, but we should be highly suspicious of that claim. A tactic that Iran has used before, claiming to be noble humanitarians sending aid, but secretly mixing guns and bombs into the supplies to help arm the insurgency.

Due to their past behavior we have every reason to suspect that Iran will try again with this new fleet, to smuggle weapons to the Houthis. We hope that the US works with Saudi Arabia to blockade this fleet until every box is inspected to make sure Iran is not doing it again!

You can help bring a morale boost to the sailors aboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt by making a donation today. We are preparing a shipment headed directly for the troops aboard this US Navy Aircraft Carrier!!

Hurry and donate NOW to increase the size of this imminent shipment!!! These items are impossible to find overseas, so for the troops who receive them, it’s like a little piece of home.

Mother’s Day Care Packages for Military Moms

There are only 2 days left until Mother’s Day, that means time is running out to sponsor a great Mother’s Day care package from Move America Forward!

Move America Forward is busy sending out care packages to our moms who are serving overseas to keep their families back home safe! People all around the country are coming together and making donations or doing whatever they can to help the troops overseas, especially the moms, since Mother’s Day is this Sunday May 10th!

It’s true that our military moms who are out there serving in Afghanistan will have no opportunity to be pampered by their husbands, or receive that construction paper, crayon-written, macaroni-glued Mother’s Day card from their kids.

Did you know that over 200,000 women have fought in Iraq and Afghanistan? Included in that number are over 85,000 mothers who said goodbye to their husbands, sons and daughters to go overseas and fight for their country.

By Petula DvorakAbout 220,000 women have served in Afghanistan and Iraq. About 40 percent of active-duty women, or almost 85,000, are mothers, according to a Joint Economic Committee report. And of those, at least 30,000 are single moms. That’s a lot of American kids who know that Mommy’s not going to make it to the dance recital, won’t be there for the birthday party and, to be perfectly truthful, might not come home at all.The multitasking mom – our worries, our woes, our spit-up-stained business suits and over-committed volunteering – is practically a walking cliche. But what about when Mom wears fatigues and a bad day means enemy gunfire?

We’ve received hundreds of notes from troops overseas talking about how difficult it is to miss holidays and birthdays while deployed. Imagine being halfway around the world, away from your son or daughter for the first time? This is the reality of our modern military family and as Americans it’s up to us to support those troops who bravely sacrifice so much to defend our freedoms.

Mother’s day will be especially tough for the thousands of moms still serving over in Afghanistan. It’s a dangerous job and they risk everything to do their duty.

This Mother’s Day we want to recognize all of our military Moms — those who are serving and the mothers of troops serving. Whether they’re putting themselves on the line to make a safer world for their children to grow up in, or sending their children off to keep America safe, military Moms know the meaning of SACRIFICE better than anyone. And we want to thank them this Mother’s Day.

Send a MOTHER’S DAY care package to our troops serving in Afghanistan. It’s the best way to say thanks to the Moms who gave us life, and the Moms who risk their own lives to protect our nation from threats of terrorism.

May 8th is VE DayVE Day is the day we celebrate Victory in Europe during World War 2. With Hitler dead and American and Russian troops overrunning Berlin, the German High Command finally signed an unconditional surrender on May 8th in Berlin.

Though we still had to fight on in the Pacific, the Victory in Europe was still a momentous day and celebrated all around the country.

Today we continue to celebrate VE Day as a reminder of the millions of Americans who sacrificed so much to fight the evil Nazi regime and their allies. WW2 vets and their families are gathering for parades, remembrances or other ceremonies around the country.

Take part in the celebrations or at least spend some time thinking about the monumental conflict and the people who fought so hard to keep America and the whole world free from tyranny.

Troops Stay Cool in the Sun!

We all know that this Summer is coming but over in the Middle East, the heat comes early and has already served up some scorching temperatures.

During the hottest months in Afghanistan temperatures reach well over 100 degrees in some regions. In Iraq it gets even hotter, up to 120 degrees !!!

According to a recent article in Army Times a soldier on extended foot patrol carries an average load ranging from 87 to 127 staggering pounds!

With this in mind Move America Forward is proud to showcase several products we include in the care packages designed to help keep our troops cool and deal with the extreme heat.

Iranian Ships Turn…Is It Over? Maybe Not…

Help Sailors Aboard USS Theodore Roosevelt

Last Sunday, the USS Theodore Roosevelt was dispatched to the Gulf of Aden off the coast of Yemen ostensibly to deter or stop the flow of Iranian weapons and material support to the Houthi rebels that have taken control of Yemen by bloodthirsty aggression. Iran has been supporting those radicals who ousted the government through a campaign of terror last month and continue to send weapons, ammunition, money and other support to the rebels as fighting continues for the control of this troubled but strategically important country.

It has also been reported that a convoy of 9 Iranian ships, including 2 warships, were on a direct course toward Yemen, but not without having to get past the U.S. Navy carrier group. U.S. officials said the Iranians have diverted away from Yemen but may not turn back to Iran. It’s possible the Iranians might try to sail around the USS Theodore Roosevelt and into Yemen, but the U.S. ships are capable of intercepting them.

U.S. official: Iranian cargo ships turn away from Yemen

WASHINGTON — The convoy of Iranian cargo ships that had been headed toward war-torn Yemen — possibly with advanced weaponry for Houthi rebels — has reversed its direction, a U.S. defense official tells CBS News national security correspondent David Martin. The official said it remains unclear where the nine-ship convoy may be headed now, whether back to Iran or toward another port.Defense Secretary Ash Carter said Wednesday that the Iranian ships might be carrying weapons to the Houthis, but he would not say whether the U.S. would forcibly stop and board one of the Iranian ships if it entered Yemeni waters.

Please read this heartfelt and inspiring letter we recently received back from one of the sailors aboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt. Bear in mind the sailor is responding to our inquiry to confirm that we have the correct mailing address for them aboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt.

Move America Forward,That [address] is actually perfect! I’ve been in the Navy 2 years and 11 months. I lived in Anchorage, Alaska for 10 years and before that Minnesota, Twin Cities. I was born in Thailand near a refugee camp where a lot of my race were seeking refuge from the Vietnam War. I don’t know much about my own [past] because I grew up in the US since I was 1, and became a naturalized citizen. Well thats a lot about me already, I hope to get to know you and your supporters soon as well.AN  [Redacted]  Yang

When we first reached out, we had no idea this particular sailor had such a unique and powerful personal story. Her family were refugees forced to flee their homes in the face of Communist death squads during the Vietnam war. Like so many at the time, she was taken in by the United States, a bastion of freedom for people escaping the violent Communist revolutionaries running rampant in the Indochina Peninsula at the time. How inspiring that she was lucky enough to grow up FREE in the USA, the greatest country in the world, and she now serves and protects that freedom in the US Navy.

Volunteers Show Love for the Troops

Volunteers Show Love for the Troops

Yesterday a group of about 15 MAF volunteers worked hard to prepare over 500 more care packages for our troops on the front lines. It took hours for them to fill boxes up with coffee, cookies, candy and all the other great items that our troops will appreciate. Here are some great photos of our volunteers doing what they love and turning your donations into real support for the troops.

There are still over 15,000 American troops in Afghanistan and 3,000 in Iraq and growing. You can help them by making a donation! We need more generous donors to sponsor these boxes so we can ship them off to Afghanistan and Iraq!

These care packages truly make a huge difference to the troops who receive them.
Here are some photos and messages from troops
who just recently received care packages from MAF.

Unit Cmdr. Says Care Packs Were Like Christmas

As you can see from attached photo, we received 17 more care packages. I’m sorry we don’t have any photos of the opening of boxes (which felt a little like Christmas) but we had a terrible photographer. Oh, wait, it was me! Anyway, just wanted to let you know how much we appreciate folks thinking of us – there’s nothing like the comforts and tastes of home!

Best Regards,

Troopathon Guest “Coach K” Wins 5th Championship as Duke Coach.
Congrats to Army Veteran and Pro-Troop Supporter

We just wanted to take a minute to congratulate our friend “Coach K” Mike Krzyzewski for an amazing job he did coaching the Duke University Blue Devils to their 5th championship in college basketball. Last night, Coach K’s team bested Wisconsin in the finals to secure their 5th championship 68-63.

Mike Krzyzewski is already a legend in college basketball, but he’s also distinguished himself as Coach of TEAM USA, our Olympic men’s basketball team who won the Gold in 2008 and 2012 with Coach K at the helm.

After enlisting in the Army he studied at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point where he was Captain of the West Point Men’s Basketball Team in his Senior year. After serving as an artillery officer he retired from active duty and began coaching basketball full time. He coached the Indiana Hoosiers for one year, then returned to West Point to coach the Army Cadets before being named head coach of the Duke University team in 1980.

For the past 3 years Coach K has also been an enthusiastic supporter and participant in MAF’s Troopathon. His inspiring messages of support for the troops overseas have been a blessing to have and include in our annual Troopathon show.

Here is a clip featuring Coach K from last year’s show!

Head over to Coach K’s Facebook Page HERE and
THANK HIM for supporing our troops overseas!

Timothy P. Broglio, Archbishop for the  Military Services, USA

Easter Message 2015

Let us be troubadours of joy and heralds of hope in the world of the military and medical centers administered by the Department of Veterans Affairs, where there are so many concerns provoked by budget tightness, by downsizing, by the lingering hardship of war, and separation from loved ones.  We draw our joy and hope, not from external factors, but from the very faith in Jesus, the redeemer of humanity.
